I feel the story itself is written well just after volume 4 it changes from a more broad audience to a much smaller subset of said audience and it heavily alienated the rest of it. And thats why its getting such bad publicity now. (To be fair volume 4 is just starting its conflicts so they could just be handled horribly and everything goes to shit.)

Personally I feel the same way it should have ended a while ago. For now the way the stories going I don't think the MC did anything and this was all a trap by a third party who is using this girl to break up the couple. To throw my hat at in the ring I think it's the older sister.

So… after the cursed chapter 46 dropped, I did some digging to try to understand what the hell happened to this story. I made a post about it, and for informational purposes, I’m gonna repost it here:

Well, since the story is ruined FOR ME, since I consider what happened totally unnecessary and it kind of felt off with the tone of the story until that point, I decided to do some research to try to understand why the author decided to take this dark turn in the story.

Before continuing, let me emphasize again, the story is ruined FOR ME. If you liked what happened, think it’s fitting with the rest of the story, or think it was an interesting twist, good for you. It’s okay to disagree, so please don’t bother me.

Anyway, here’s the timeline of events that I came up with:
  • As many know, it all started with a WN, with the first chapter being published on 2020-02-25 and the last on 2021-07-17. I don’t know if the WN is exactly the same as the LN, but it’s basically the same content as the first volume of the LN and the first four volumes of the manga.
  • The author struck a deal with Shueisha for the publication of the story both as a manga and as an LN.
  • According to the timestamp on NicoNico, the first chapter of the manga was published before the first volume of the LN, perhaps to help with the publicity and sales of the LN. The first chapter of the manga was published on 2022-11-01.
  • The first volume of the LN was published on 2022-11-25.
  • The first volume of the manga was published on 2023-05-19.
  • The second volume of the LN was published on 2023-12-22.
  • The second volume of the manga was published on 2024-01-18.
  • The third volume of the manga was published on 2024-06-19.
  • The fourth volume of the manga was published on 2025-09-19.
As you can see, there’s a one-year gap between the publication of volumes 1 and 2 of the LN, but almost two years have passed since then and there’s still no volume 3. Since LN release intervals are usually somewhat consistent, this raises some questions. The first is, does the story end in volume 2? The second is, if it doesn’t, has the LN been canceled? And the third is, if it was canceled, did that happen before or after the release of volume 2? Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to any of these questions and can only speculate. I tried asking two people who read the second volume whether the story ends there, but neither of them replied. If anyone knows, please let us know.

I have a few scenarios in my head.
  1. The LN wasn’t canceled, and the story actually ends in volume 2. This feels strange to me because of the dark turn the author took. I mean, I know this is the same author as Fukushuu o Koinegau Saikyou Yuusha wa, but even so, it still feels odd.
  2. Sales of volume 1 of the LN were poor, and the author was told to wrap it up in volume 2, so she unleashed her demons there. Considering the dark turn, this seems more plausible to me than scenario 1.
  3. Sales of volume 1 of the LN were poor, so the author tried to spice things up with the dark turn in volume 2, but it didn’t work and the LN was canceled afterward. I also find this more plausible than scenario 1.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how to check LN sales data, but we can take a look at the sales of the manga’s physical copies using Shoseki Ranking. And since we’re at it, why not?
  • Volume 1: approximately 1,838 copies sold in the first week and about 2,606 copies in the second week, for a total of roughly 4,444 copies. No data after that.
  • Volume 2: approximately 2,600 copies sold in the first week. No data after that.
  • Volume 3: approximately 2,313 copies sold in the first week. No data after that.
  • Volume 4: did not enter the weekly ranking, so there’s no data to estimate sales. During its release week, it needed to sell at least 1,250 copies to rank.
Here’s a chart:

hM8LJHa.png

Note: I listed Volume 4 with 1,250 copies sold for illustration purposes only. The actual number is lower.

Considering the genre of the manga, these numbers are pretty bad. So I find it quite surprising that the author decided to stick with the same dark turn she made in the LN. She had plenty of time to reconsider the story but chose to keep it as it was in the LN. If I were a betting man, I’d say her contract with Shueisha guarantees that all the LN content will be adapted into the manga, because physical volume sales are only getting worse. Maybe digital sales are keeping it afloat, I don’t know.

Welp, that’s all I have to say about it. Once again, if anyone knows whether the story actually ends in volume 2 of the LN, please let us know.
This is the type of comment that makes comment sections worth reading.
👍

My theory is that the LN has been de facto cancelled but they're waiting for the manga to run it's course. Basically letting the manga's success/failure dictate whether the axe drops but also not trying to damage the manga's sales.
🤓

Judging by what's readily visible, the series is headed to the guillotine.
☠️

It is rather entertaining when you see an author go crazy.
🙃

Not if you actually were invested in the series though. Poor saps.

Well. I really dont think the fact that Hanabi got blackmailed is necessary for the story just wtf it just add some darker mood I hate this… yeah she was really wrong but in fact she ended to know that she were wrong from all the line with the MC so the blackmail shit is a big no…

no, point for the mc revenge anymore.
i hate it when some characters are balckmailed and raped though they deserve some punishment but this is way too much.
the first chapters were just wholesome and now this latest one has sexual violence in it now.. what do you think guys? is it time to drop this shit?
Brother, The author straight made her a prostitute, Except if he pulled a rag somewhere and it's just a bunch of dudes/gals beating her up, I don't think this is worth your emotional, mental, literary capacity

So much for the cope. 🥲

If Google translate is correct, latest raw chapter confirms prostitution for about a month. Also, the comments on the raw site were talking about preventing pregnancy so I guess the pill is mentioned.

Don't worry though. 🥳

FL has been "investigating" this whole time and has finally discovered the truth. "But what can [she] do?"

I'll just ask on what chapter is this information about where the pill was mentioned because ive read chapter 50.2 put it in gemini for translation and none of that was mentioned just trying to clarify if it's in chapter 51 ty.

My understanding is that Japanese readers are commenting on the pregnancy because the pedophile and rapist Kirigaya is talking to on the phone asked if he could hit Hanabi, and Kirigaya told him he could do whatever he wanted as long as he didn’t kill her. So Japanese readers are pointing out how stupid Kirigaya is for not worrying about the possibility of his “source of income” getting pregnant. Some also mentioned that some people have a fetish for pregnant women, and that if Hanabi does end up pregnant, Kirigaya could just force her to have an abortion.

In short, it’s a complete disaster created by the author, and whatever she was on when she chose to take the story in this direction… because JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, this has turned into ABSOLUTE ASS. The gap between volume 1 of the novel and volume 2, which is what the manga is adapting now, is so huge it doesn’t even feel like the same story anymore.

Also, these are my favorite comments from Japanese readers:
本当に胸糞悪い。次の巻が全く売れないことを願う。

This is really disgusting. I hope the next volume doesn’t sell at all.

What I don't get is why it's gotten so, I don't know, bipolar. We're shown what the FL is thinking at the time and throughout. Then a new chapter is released that says something different.

We bookend this "investigation" sub arc first with the FL thinking Hanabi had just been raped in the public toilets and the narrator confirming that she isn't stupid enough to believe Hanabi's lie. Now in the latest chapter she's shown to just now be realizing how horrible Hanabi has been having it. Over the month she's been "investigating" because she's so worried. But it's shown that she was concerned about the date she had planned and other rom-com stuff. It's like there's two different versions of the story being smashed together.

Guys it may seem interesting, but save yourself some time and don't read this story. Its so ass and only gets worse. Bland, predictable and one dimensional characters. Even garbage isekais are atleast funny to laugh at cause of how bad they are.

Honestly, I don't want to think about it too much because it really pisses me off. The thing is, the author butchered the story in the second volume of the novel, and now we're seeing it in the manga. As for why she did it, only she and her dumb editor know. And the fact that the author is radio-silent about the manga on X tells me she knows she fucked up and doesn’t want to deal with backlash. Maybe when the second volume of the novel came out, she already dealt with backlash and doesn’t want to go through it again. If you look at the reviews people left on Amazon for the second volume, most of them are negative.

Brother, the point here is not that you can't have heavy, uncomfortable themes in stories - it's that this shit was such a completely disproportional tone shift. This was a high-school romance story that dealt with some realistic trauma issues, but was mostly a feel-good, don't think too hard, kind of plot. Then the author drops this sexual assault misery porn out of the blue?

Some stories can pull off surprise twists with heavy themes to subvert the readers' expectations, but you need MUCH better writing than this to make it work. And no reasonable person is going to give this author the benefit of the doubt when they see his other work is filled with porn involving gore and sexual assault. This is just a guy venting his frustration against women with awful novels.
What are you talking about? This has been dark from the beginning. The main character has been abused his entire life by Hanabi and it has shown that abuse throughout the whole series.

It truly feels like people are only upset because now it's a chick getting the dark treatment. Our protagonist has been through hell and likely would have ended up killing himself if he didn't make the plunge to leave Hanabi. But that's all fine and good, no one cares about his abuse and torment. But the moment it's her being abused everyone is wanting to drop the series and calling it trash. Just an obvious double standard.
