Reading gives me conflicted feelings because no way a blip in a diplomatic letter like that is just cause to wage war.

But then I look at current real world situations and countries wage war for less offense. Crazy how it works.
Because it wasn't about the land. They were just doing Brinksmanship for fun, to clown on the orcs. Even if they prepared for war for that, it would take a year or two to prepare.

Not realizing that the orcs are ALREADY prepared.

Why only look at the current stuff? We been waging war against others for petty reason since the start of humanity. They only needed a strong casus belli so other countries won´t go world war on their asses and also block any potential support the opposing party could possibly get while the conflict is on going.

I mean, will you wage war to support an ally who messed up in writing that letter? It's not really worth the time and money for it.

Wait till you find out about the war of the bucket.

Yes we’ve started wars for less, and for far more pettier reasons. In comparison, outright demanding your foe’s territory as if it were your own and demanding you write back to acknowledge the kissing of the ass is pretty much a solid casus belli, equivalent to slapping the king with a fish for shits and giggles.

"Casus Belli" have always been important and are generally integral for maintaining unity and moral authority (the 'right and justness') for going to war. Nations typically go to war for only three reasons: Fear or threat; Resources; Pride. When reading the previous chapters, all the Orcsen allies have grudges against Elfind that amount to pride. Fear or threat has already passed, going to war for reasons of vengeance are often dubious in the eyes of outside parties, but a country with an unreasonable/unlawful claim to territory? That is a justification of war that can be defended within and without.

P.S. Just in case it wasn't clear, they are actually waging war to settle the wounded pride of all Elfind's victims and disrupt any future threats, but this is the reason they'll wave around if others ask.

Remember people that Gustav has been waiting for an excuse to go ham (heh) on Elfind for a while now, and they just had to send a letter who not only demanded part of their territory (which could open a way for them to demand more in time if accepted), but also not addressing an issue Orcsen specifically demanded an explanation for. Gustav put a performance of utter fury to the Camelot diplomats to ensure they send the message how utterly furious he is about that so nobody bat an eye when the war starts.

Simply put, Gustav has been expecting and preparing for this moment and Elfind delivered it on a silver platter, sooner than expected in fact. War WAAAAAGH! it is.
