THIS, this is what is happening in this chapter, it feels like many of you guys have forget how bad it was to live in medieval era where nobles are gods to tyrant toward peasants.
MC makes a correct choice to live good for another day, than taking the first step to DOOM. I don't know why many hates this chapter when its being logical and not too much of BS fantasy love conquers all.
Just to add, it isn't just the point related to "medieval era".

Even in real modern life, people of high society rarely marry those of lower economic level, and even if they do marry, there are penalties to pay.

I mean, just few years back, Princess of the Japanese imperial family married a Commoner man (if i remember right, first time in history of the Imperial Family), and had to give up her title, and is now also considered as a Commoner.

In the first place, she was only able to marry her college sweetheart, because of modern norms, but she still lost her title and position because of marrying someone of lower status.

And in some countries, such notions are outright not allowed. Like in the Korean Upper Class families, aka., the Chaebol. None of the family members are normally allowed to marry anyone of the lower economic class, and are only allowed to marry someone from another Chaebol family or of higher economic or political position.

As for the Hate, people are giving this chapter, its probably because it strongly has an NTR notion, specifically Netorare.

Fuck off with that. Author you may not be aware but you actually dont HAVE to include every worthless dogshit trope attached to the genre youre doing
I mean, this IS a way of forcing him to develop into someone who can be with her. Maybe a bit brute in approach (with the whole "crib robber" angle and all) but still.

If he isn't capable of detecting malice beyond surface level, and cannot strive for standing that lets him be besides her beyond a mere aide, some variation of this would still happen at some point.

This. She's blind to the hints he's reaching a breaking point and only struggling to keep up the act. Even the fiancee clocked him instantly and is weaponizing his turmoil by laying bait with this request.

The biggest Troupe the Author used is basically the premise of the series, aka., having a Young Man as a Servant/Butler to a Young Noble Lady.

Because in a more realistic scenario, no young man would be allowed to be near a Unmarried Noble Lady.

Only older married men are give such position, if given in the first place. Usually its a female attendant who handle stuff for a Noble lady.

Nah Bro I kinda agree The heroine married with this Noble Boi although this MF is a PEDO
Like fr he's got everything
The heroine is gonna Be safe and sound
Also he got everything what the heroine do is adapted to it and will Love him
Like Bro he got more power and Everything Rather than this Mc

Rather than Married with this MC is kinda pathetic honestly Like bro If she married her life will be miserable
I'm rather Seeing MC married with the same level female like him

But I know some miracle will appear out of nowhere and will be a happy one

Honestly She deserves Better 🫩✌️
"She deserves better"

.......so your idea of better, is a pedo????

Never step foot in a kitchen again

As a matter of fact, don't even get within 30ft of one

I'm on NTR hate camp as well, but I do like this chapter as how it is not another cheap love conquers all, but showing how it should be to be in place, of commoners VS someone above the law.
Ah yes, see how titanic movie is loved despise its a goddamn NTR, thank you for answering why people hate this chapter...
What about a little change, say the story is done from nobleman perspective. About a man who loved a girl for long time, loyally fight and waiting for her, suddenly he is watching a servant STEALING her heart in front of his eyes, and yet he still able to control himself. What is to hate from him?
Let's be real, in this setting and such, if he is a bastard, he will not give a damn to meet MC, whom is a mere servant, to have a civilized talk. He can order someone to destroy MC manhood or straight off with his head, nobility will not care about 1 servant.

We've definitely gotten that scenario before in romantic fiction, even if I can't think of examples at the moment.

We've also had some hellish cases of an MC giving up his love to someone above his station, Gungrave being one that really pissed me off.

There are differences between this scenario and the thousand similar ones we've seen before, first one is the family most novels using this trope I've seen have a supportive family (mother usually) that approves or encourages the relationship and the class difference is seen through modern lens, meaning is considered a minor problem. This novel made it clear that Gray could've died at the party if any noble wanted, even a lower noble could've killed him for the perceived affront.

Well, in Japan, there are two genre with the same NTR notion, but applied differently.
  • NTR -> Netorare = Someone stealing the Love of the MC, or a Bad person stealing the love of a Good person.
  • NTR -> Netori = MC stealing the Love interest or a married person from another. In this case, the person being stolen from is usually the bad guy or is useless type (typically workaholic if set in modern era, or a wife beater), and MC is basically saving the on being stolen. Titanic falls under this type of NTR. And this is the type of NTR which is commonly accepted in society, as its seen as saving someone.

If i remember right, there are a few Manga series with similar initial premise. Don't remember there names though.

Just for clarification, is that guy really a pedo like everyone is claiming?

I mean, didn't he wait for her to be of age before going for the marriage appeal?

If he really was a pedo, he would have gone after her immediately when he was attracted to her at that age and not waited for her to come of age. And considering the setting is Middle Age based, such a political relationship would have been immediately allowed if he wished for it.

You said yourself he was attracted to her when she was a child.
Last I checked, that's part of the definition of that particular term.

Just because he waited until she was "of age", doesn't dispute that fact. If anything, that's Grant being socially aware, and how inappropriate immediate action would have been.

Nor does the setting itself ostensibly mean anything, when the author can handwave any facet of that time period away for the sake of convenience in telling their story. It's not like the rest of this is playing super tight to the time period it's loosely inspired by.

The problem I have with this story is that it started with the setting that the description gave. The misunderstood rude aristocrat lady that all her behavior paint her as a intolerant snob and the butler that translated those behaviors in her real kind intention she wanted to give.
It looks like the author ran out of ideas to do the promised setting and went full cliche romance drama...

Ignoring the age gap, Grant didn't even answer Gray's question. Gray asked him if he loved Alicia, and he responded with the time he first saw her.

They didn't even talk at that time. Grant even says he only "had a feeling", and they've had no contact since.

How is that love?

Such a stupid dogshit trope. He could’ve at least said he does care but that he wants what’s best for her. God I fucking hate spineless mc’s.

Is the second pic from Rent a Girlfriend? If so, I'm even happier that I dropped it :win:

But yeah, Gray... He thinks he is taking the best course of action, because he is a commoner and can't give her the life she is used to... but dude, just become a minister or something. I don't remember if he can fight, but he could become a knight or work his way up to a high ranking position. It's not like he HAS to stay a butler for the rest of his life. If he stays a butler, he can be near her, but not with her. Unless the man she ends up marrying is a cuck and wants Gray to sleep with her. Could happen, but really unlikely.
