the continent being protected from the outside by a special barrier would make sense in the way that one entity outside tried to force its way into the barrier thus requiring those sacrifcies.

That's a crazy lore drop to suddenly get, but interesting nonetheless.

I was going to use Yuuki Yuna is a Hero for my own "the outside world is absolutely fucked" setting comparison.

Though Zagan and Co. at least have a whole continent; Yuuki's livable world had been reduced to an island the size of New Jersey.

Crazy chills from this chapter.

For the Gacha addicts out there,
This is like the Dark Wall in ZZZ.
This entire continent is being shielded from an Eldritch abomination of untold proportions.

Suddenly, it makes sense that Zagan is so stupidly overpowered when the power system is more or less balanced.
Right now, he's probably absolutely nothing compared to the things that lie outside the barrier.

There's also Claymore, where the main setting, despite its dangers and status as a weapons research facility, is actually a lot safer than the mainland. Which also isn't exactly a comforting thought.
Just to add. On this whole "known areas of the world" and "inaccessible areas of the world", another famous example is Hunter X Hunter. But it has been years since the voyage to the "outer world" started, though... IF we ever get there, with Togashi's chronic back problems. :aquadrink:

Claymore mentioned. Take my Like.
I really wish the anime had adapted it properly, but oh well...it was still epic up until 90% of the way to the end. :aquadrink:

Yeah, the timeline is confusing. I would have believed if it was eighty months and not eight.
Or at the very least 8 years ago.
Oh well, at least we had some nice lore dump.

So how did Nephy end up in black market being sold as slave?
Estate sale on the black market after Marchosias died. Main new info is that it seems the reason why Nephy was more or less unharmed was because Marchosias obtained her to protect her, not use/sacrifice/sell her.

Not a fan of this much lore drop dumped at once like this.
Usually me neither, but they are far enough in the manga and familiar enough with each other to actually discuss something like that in a way that looks natural-ish, so this gets a pass.

Oh yeah there's also that in ZZZ for reference now, haha

Selphy is hilarious :kek: but she can also cut the time for sea travel from a week to a day? that's actually powerful

Yeah and my question is as soon as he dies, his protection ends fine of course. But who ought to inherit the estate, if the answer is nobody then who gets the sale money? The money Zagan had to pay. Looters? And whoever was to receive the money never harmed Nephy, nor did whoever she was supposed to be protected from now that her protector is dead?

i feel like i get more and more confused with this story timelines.

the 5 archangels? so the whole previous archangels was wiped out and the current even this old man was new ones?
great war 2 months before Zagan bought Silphy isn't enough for legends to spread. especially considering our Daughter Dragon Foll achievement on Demon lord Mrchiosas succession after the previous demon lord died. also isn't like he died years ago and didn't have anyone yet Worthy as successor is why there demon lords candidates like Foll and others.
There are 12 archangels, half were called to fight that day.
And "Demon Lord Candidate" is kind of a very tricky translation. You would have to go to the original myths, with the demon princes described in the book of Solomon to understand why that term is used. Essentially, they are sorcerers (demons in the book of Solomon) who have earned the right to have a name. They are not candidates in the sense they are competing for a position, rather in the sense they are the ones worthy of inheriting it if things come to that. As the story progresses and more is explained about what the hell is actually going on, it will become clear why there's a system in place that guarantees that any archdemon can be immediately replaced if things go bad (theoretically, a similar system should exist within the knights, it's just atrophied to hell and the new knights aren't really in the loop of things).
But yeah, timelines are not the strongest suit of the story, in my brain I just expand or compress them as needed to make thngs make sense. But in general it feels like things are happening too fast, barely any time passes between world changing events, and the world doesn't seem to react to it as it should.

Now my question is did Marchosias protecr Nephy because he had some premonition that she and Zagan needed to be brought together to save the world from this ultra threat and set things in motion; or was everything just a complete coincidence?

well, the plot is good and make sense except the timeline after all. especially Foll part where she discovered her father death and become known as one of powerful demon lord candidate.
i was expecting the duration between her father death and his meeting Zagan to challenge him at least few years since she's already wide known. 2 months definitely not enough to me.

uhm, the one who bought Zagan isn't Marchonias. it was Barbaros Master, Andras.

The author got a whole lot more rep just because of it.
To be fair, it would be the artist at least.

No idea if the original LN makes such an overt reference to Diskworld, though the other alternative would be the multiverse of Stephen King, which is said to lay on the back of the turtle Maturin.
