Wasn't it changed because someone abused the feature? I remember a week into V5 someone made a thread talking about how a user was spamming them with dumbs, which caused one of the higher-ups to step in and change how it worked. I can't find the thread, so it might have been deleted. Don't remember the -3 though, it was probably -2.

I believe this post supports that :dumb: gave a negative score at some point.

Examples:
