Yeh, will say there's def some psychic damage seeing the okama character, but as another said, honestly it also seems to be quite a thing to have the okama characters end up being some of the most solid mfers to the protag ever X3

And like, ok, to act like my Asian tranny ass doesn't also appreciate the okama confidence some... I mean hell, I've used that exact energy with a fashy looking security guard too (lowkey to bait the transphobia from him lol), sometimes it fucking works wonders to be all "fuck you, I'm a woman" while using my untrained voice X3 nothing makes folx pause more than being in a fully slutted out outfit, then dropping the lower voice when mfers are acting up nearby 🤭🤭🤭

Can't wait to see more of nee-san, esp seeing more of nee-san knock swordbruh off balance X3

Hmm. Remind me who Dias is? Wasn't sure if it was implying that he was actually Inina, or was just imitating Inina (and thus had been watching Fran the entire time she was down in the lobby).

Anyway, I don't remember him offhand, and a scan of a few random chapters doesn't jog any memories.
Old dude who showed up at Fran’s campsite during her travels to the city.

Showed up again to help her during a situation when entering the city where she was being harassed by the usual Adventurer Guild Thug Group.

Why bring such a perverted character to the story like this? i mean a masochist that doesn't care about age???? this is just too much
Because okama are a staple of Japanese media, much like the token black man with big lips, the wrinkled pervert who turns out to be a martial master, or his couterpart the old crone that slings world ending magic.

Just like harem fictions have a standard cast of character archetypes, so to do fantasy settings. So just like a certain Pokémon trainer, Japanese authors gotta catch 'em all.

yeah i saw a lot of characters like this in my otaku life but the mix of masochism with no age restriction caught me off guard

That aside, I was dreading reading the comments and sure enough it was painful. I mean, I do cringe at this type of caricature, there's not enough respectful depictions to make it not mean-spirited, but people are really overreacting here. (And yes I'm fully anticipating the indignant emotes I'll see below this post.)
it sucks that peoples response wasn't 'this seems like a mean-spirited depiction, and that makes me uncomfortable', but 'ewww they put a degenerate in this manga isn't that gross'

It's not even mean-spirited, IMO.
Another comment in the prev pages mentioned that a lot of it comes from the cultural differences behind how Japan has mostly accepted okama as a subset of people.
Their depiction in media is usually played for laughs, but I don't think I've ever seen a 100% negative character being an okama.
So far, they're mostly wholesome weirdos who are unusually strong?

Using the term "sissy" here is certain an odd choice. I think it still considered derogatory terms in the community.

Was it necessary to include that disgusting thing in the manga?
It's gotta be a trope or something at this point there are so many isekai manga that just have the worlds least convincing drag queen and everyone just rolls with it for some reason. Its so omnipresent I'm getting desensitized to it at this point

The Okama character type is an old trope in manga dated back at least 1980s. My first recollection of this is seeing the Okama bar in City Hunter manga, the OG one.

And I have to say I'm not surprised but still disappointed about some of the comments on this chapter. The whole story is about the readers cheering for Fran as she is going against the whole world telling her [Evolution] for her race is impossible, to fulfill her dreams, but people will see a man dress and behave in a non-standard way and suddenly everyone is in the trenches fighting for the "traditional values".
Dropping a giant muscle man in a skintight patterned bondage outfit and giant Afro into the middle of your story will tend to distract you from other things going on around you. For good or bad it's EXTREMELY eye catching. It's like a visual flashbang

Imo okamas are great characters, 8 out of 10 they're joke type characters, but they play on both strengths of a strong male and compassionate female most of the time.
Well true, Erza did play as moral support for Fran after she's hit by unimaginable tragedies ahead. On earlier chapter already said that most top ranker are filled with weirdo, I know other manga completely skewed the meaning of B-rank because they only cared about S-Rank but in this manga B-Rank is unattainable for most adventurer
