I think it was less sabotage and more so corruption as he seems to be lazy scum who didnt want to work now. He was probably in the knight force longer but couldnt be lazy due to old boss elf being strict and experienced then when she retires and the new knight commander, the MC, was elected and he saw an easy mark to dump work on. Not to mention its been said that there has been a long time of peace between nations and there hasnt been any real need for knight commanders to be urgently used for military purposes.
