So, one is completely drunk with confidence (the old party leader) while having no power, while the other (our MC), has the power to sustain the confidence, the problem is... well, we can see it in the old party leader. the thing is, our MC is aware of it.

but logical speaking, killing babies for 1 million for free is a bargain. you lose nothing and gain 1 million.

The very first page of his internal monologue has him acknowledge that his skill has a chance to backfire and kill him, and a few pages later he acknowledges that pushing the skill further has a chance of making him black out, but rationalizes it and goes for it anyway. And then goes "HERE IT COMES HERE IT COMES HERE IT COMES" in his head when he does it anyway.

He's an addict looking to get high.

I don't remember previous chapters very well but that voice was from the dungeon, he supposedly saved his previous party a few times that way and never had a problem and the dungeon has shown a few strange phenomenons.
