I mean, I get it. Being around nice and good natured people and friends yet still feeling suffocated somehow. Isn't that similar to like, social masking?
But at least he got to get it out of his system and vent it all. He'll feel a little better after this probably.
It's not just social masking, but I would say just a total system shock. From what we read and infer, Wim never had a good life from the get go.
He's always had to struggle whilst the world put him down. He was never acknowledged for anything in his life. It made him into this person who thinks he's nothing to the world. Now all of the sudden you have people around you thinking you are the hottest shit since sliced bread. People who genuinely care about your well being. It's a lot to process through, and I understand that guilt that maybe he doesn't deserve all of this.
I feel like deep down, he has a death wish but is too cowardly to end his own life, so he just goes on about life without regards to his own life.
Its very apparent to me, at least, that this is the main reason why he enjoys fighting to the brink of death. It was the only thing that gave him power for the first time in his life whilst achieving his death wish.
But now you have people who actually care about him and he is hesitating and questioning his death wish. Does he really want to die now that there is people who will be genuinely sad and hurt when he dies.
Honestly, this slow decent to madness and self loathing is one of the best I've read in a while. It's not overly edgy whilst you understand all the confusion and thoughts going through his head, with a hint of brain malfunction
