Another week another chapter! I thought about skipping a week between volumes, but I'm still far enough ahead there's no need to do that.

I will be out of town the weekend of August 1st though, so no comic that week.

New this chapter - This is the first issue of VJump I got. September 2025. The next I got was VJump December 2025. So you're going to start getting to see the end-of-chapter pages from the monthly releases! These were not included in the tankoubon releases. But given how insanely detailed they are, I only did a basic translation and no redrawing or anything.

I love how in this chapter we get foreshadowing and an explanation for why Avan seeks out Popp's father - he hears about him from Gunota first!

I also love how Avan is explaining why Hyunckel might one day need Grand Cross, should he ever lose his weapon, and he's like "Nah, you just need to get good Sensei. Skill issue."

And I know, right!? I in no way mean to disparage the OG artist, but Shibata-san's work is just so incredibly detailed, emotive while not being overly cartoony, with dynamic action poses that are not basic and all-the-same. And he's so incredibly consistent with it. 50 pages each month of absolute peak artistry.

I really can't wait until we get to see Maam and Popp and I would just like... die... but then get better very quickly so I could translate it... if the two of them decide to do a sequel.

I feel like the odds of that happening are better than they've ever been. This Avan prequel has consistently sold very well, top 10 every time a volume is released (granted the difference from 1 to 10 is huge). It is a beloved series. A sequel was always something Sanjo-san had plotlines for. Like, it feels like it could really happen, you now?

But based on current pacing, with Volume 14 and 15 wrapping up this current arc, you figure 2 or 3 volumes for each Maam and Popp, and we're still another 3 or 4 years before we're even close to the end of this series (I'm going to be doing this for a while more lol).

As someone whose a huge fans of DQ, gonna say that I personally think Yuusha Avan is just, a much better DQ story than Dai

Dai is a shounen that incorporate DQ content, while Avan is a DQ story with shounen plot beat

I think the best part of Avan story is that it actually makes you accept how high-powered the beginning of Dai(them throwing shit like Kaboom and Kacrack like it's nothing, even tho they're at most lvl 10-ish at first), Avan put a reasonable start of power level that if you see Dai as a sequel, it's less infuriating

Now I wish we get to see more DQ monsters be reimagined as Avan's villains, I suggest, since DQ7R is released near Avan's manga, we get to see stuff like Cumulus Rex or the Pip monsterline
