Nah, I've met a lot of people who have kept their addictions hidden from everyone but those they use around.

From ciggies and meth to DMT and heroin. There's ways to hide it all and be functional. You'll be surprised who around you is on something without you knowing.

I've been part of the drug scene my whole life and still get surprised by how little people notice functional addicts, myself included and I know all the signs.

With cigarettes, we can always smell...it doesn't help that she wears her hair down and isn't wearing a jacket with that blouse and dress.

"We can always tell" No, you can only tell those who don't make an effort to hide it. Being that it's legal and still partially socially acceptable, most won't hide it.

I've met two people who hide it with long hair. They use chewing gum, hand cream, body mist and leave in conditioner to hide it and you can't tell unless you go through their handbags.

Like you can be shoulder to shoulder with them and smell nothing because they know how to mask it.
