Also part of Corrupted God, iirc, it's somewhat of "passively taken people's malice, despair, and more in the area" thus something far from the land might cause some bit more of that, and normally gods have way to get rid of those things, this one's way ended up taking far too much, and not take any out. And opsie daisy the breakpoint happen after he f**ked the mom.

The author is so baaaaaaaad at writing..... It makes ZERO sense why a Japanese land god got suddenly mad with such reasons in this time frame, but not during WWII....

War? Some parts of Africa, the Middle East, Afghanistan or russia, maybe North Korea would make sense, but not Japan.
Infestation? Exploiting nature? Again, some parts of Africa or russia, in addition of China, India, the deforestation in the Amazonas, or the USA, but not Japan.

In the past, multiple generations before? Yes.
But not in the current time frame.

The original novel source for this is just plain slop honestly. Honestly should have taken the hint when there was aliens involve in this nonsense story lol. Only reason I read the entire thing was due to the heroine but even that was not worth it just getting blue balled.

Did you read what I wrote? Nothing did happen in Japan what would make sense to irritate him in the given time frame.

Lack of worship would make somewhat sense, but not the sudden shift from sane to insane in modern Japan, especially with the reasons given directly from the god himself.

This is called "Plotanium" ..... All crises in stories always happen when the protagonists of a story happen to be around...

There's this saying out there that I think applies to this story: "the feather that broke the camel's back". A sudden shift is not that surprising, since a little nudge can break an equilibrium, and there were clearly two 'personas' struggling for control since at least the bigger part of two decades. I'm not saying this story is a masterpiece, but at lest, on this point, I can't blame the author for his decisions.

IDK M8, there is a lot of nasty shit going down in the last 50 or so years. Would actually say WWII played a major part in the corruption, and then post war events, black companies, corporate greed, crime syndicates, raising suicide rates and other such negative sources have been steadily eroding his psyche before he could properly purify them. But as others have pointed out, the largest blow would have been the reduction worshipers and entire generations that have forgotten their duty to the land.

So while his change may have seemed sudden to us, he could have been steadily weakening for years, and then the death of a priest, and or an especially heinous act of malevolence tipped him over the edge of sanity.
