The implication is that the mask assists Salas's mind control magic. Alter wore a special gender-swapping one pre-chapter-48, but I guess he doesn't need it just to be in control. And you'll notice all the people after Rae this chapter have been wearing similar masks. Hans even got an eyepatch one xd


The mask got knocked off, freeing Elsie and her griffin from Salas' control.

There aren’t many examples of victims of Salas’ suggestion magic. Even so, exactly how the suggestions work and what he can make his victims do seems to vary from person to person and what methods he uses. One girl in part two did have a magic headband that seemed to allow Salas to discreetly give her more complex orders. My guess is the masks allow him to control a bunch of different people with little effort but as a trade-off the effects wear off as soon as you take off the mask.

On the other hand, Lily‘s alter ego was the result of untold years of research and countless test subjects in order to create an artificial dual caster. Even after she was broken free of Salas’ control, Lily still had her little outbursts, and was still able to use time magic, so whatever her sperm donor did to her had permanent effects.

Not really. This is very much near the end of this arc. Besides, the only good thing in the next arc are the twins, everything else is shite and I'm glad they're not going to adapt that...
