I guess if I was ever the MC, there'd never be a story. Them playing unfair and actually even going as far as to send assassins like that would flip my switch, and I'd slaughter every noble who had any part in this secretly, but with enough hints for people to understand who they were fucking with. And if more people then came after me even after that, then the slaughter continues until no one fucking dares to even lift their heads up without my say so.

Either way, for all that the MC says about not liking hyumans and what not, he's still fairly compassionate and withholding. I could never. I'd prefer to see more ruthlessness against people who deserve it. Showing compassion to evil is then doing harm to good by allowing evil to continue.

I did notice the head of the merchants guild coming off much more understanding but maybe he will be a complete asshat during the actual meeting venting all his frustrations onto MC. I haven't read the novel, only anime but I am intrigued by what will trigger him to lose his temper again like when mini-Tomoe was killed.

Because he is so powerful and not of this world he deals in absolutes cause it truly is all beneath him. I was reeling when he just killed a bunch if assassins and then went about his day.

Thanks for the hard work and tl and good work on uni
He's somewhat a tsundere... except he's a dude. You may hate him at first.

Makoto is not a great merchant. But that's "not great" in the sense of "not kowtowing the other merchants who (aside from Makoto) own the markets". Essentially, the other merchants dislike him because he's not playing subservient to their market monopoly/cartel.

The original author wants to criticize Makoto for "not being a great merchant" -- while somehow missing the fact that Makoto simply doesn't have to play by their rules at all. (For one, Makoto owns his entire supply chain: raw ingredients, processing, transportation -- he doesn't need to cooperate with any one else in the business.)

Original author is kind of a fool.
Makoto's not exactly a good merchant, a total newbie who opened a business but don't know how the market work. It's easy to understand if he get on other merchants's nerve. Low price, high quality, always have enough stock to sell, etc... In business's viewpoint, it's like he's trying to break the market price to eliminate rivals then monopoly the market later on but doesn't even try to hide the fact, which will invite a lot of trouble to him.

They aren't and likely won't cause they have an actual inkling for just how OP MC is. Hence also their desperation for the marital ties.
this is utter hypocrisy.
rembrandt worked his way up in the business company that he owns now by getting the original owner and his daughter killed.
this is just a plot hole by the author that never gets resolved.
if makoto has all that power, abides by his stated morale and knew about rembrandt's and wife's misdeeds, he would just immediately punish them for everything, since they acquired their wealth and position by murdering and framing innocent people.
i call that bad and hypocritical writing.

Rembrandt knows how powerful Mio and Tomoe are, and Morris has said he would be no match even in his prime.

And frankly Rembrandt has only betrayed people to advance his company, what could he possibly gain from betraying the man who saved his entire family and has three humanoid nukes as his closest aides?

He's not a murderhobo or some edgyboi, he's a ruthless corporate executive who has brain rot when it comes to his daughters and wants to look out for his future son in law.
rembrandt worked his way up in the business company that he owns now by getting the original owner and his daughter killed.
and then the blame got pushed onto the former lover of the fiancee as a scapegoat to whitewash rembrandt.
the curse mage that blacksmith turned into tried to get revenge on rembrandt for these murders and the theft of the business company of his killed beloved.
this is just a plot hole by the author that never gets resolved.

rembrandt, the butler and his wife are ruthless killers with a "might makes right" policy, get over it.
they got the curse for misdeeds they committed themselves.

He only looked soft here because he was interacting with his good friend, Rembrandt. He was just complaining to his buddy.

I'm sure we will see his full stern mode like in the anime once he is actually talking to MC.
I mean I get your point, but I mean he looks more afable here because he makes it sound like he's being forced to punish Makoto rather than trying to destroy him as how it looked in the anime or WN.
also ...
the guy is friend/rival with Rembrandt, having the conversation here also makes it weird, because at least for the WN, it felt like one of the reasons the merchant guildmaster goes for Kuzunoha is because he's protected by Rembrandt and he wanted an easy W on his rival, if you watched the anime you know that Rembrandt and this guy they both fought for the hand in marriage to Lisa, that's why the conversation they have while the city was being destroyed is better, as we get Rembrandt making fun of him for stepping on the Dragon's tail
While here in the manga we have Rembrandt pretty much warning Zara which doesn't happen on the WN or anime

I can't blame that guy ...makoto seriously way too naive ..

Dealing with non-human with his way might be okay ...

But with hyuman and demon ?? Both are the worst, they have blade your neck ready and can cut by anytime notice

I have a theory on why Makoto is so OP at Lv 1 and stuck at Lv 1. Since he received power from Tsukuyomi. He's actually a Lv 1 God. Once he's able to Level up his Godhood, he'd be able to give that Shitty Goddess her comeuppance. What is required to get to Lv 2, not a clue. Maybe the story will confirm or deny my theory down the road.

I feel like the fixed matches make the handicaps kinda pointless. Would've been nice seeing them trounce on the others and put the crowd in their place all while humiliating them by not even using "ONE PERCENT OF MY POWER"

The official localization is what's mid.
The story wanders all over the place. One of recent volumes has Makoto dragged into someone else's problem for absolutely no good reason at all. The volume starts dealing with it, then Makoto buggers off to some other location to deal with something else, and by the end of the volume, he hasn't even solved the first problem yet. And as lot of it is boring management-fu. This is not a translation issue, this is an author issue.

The author (like Makoto) clearly has no plan, but is just making it up as he goes along. (And while web novels are more prone to fall into this sort of mess, they don't have to. Plenty of web novels have a long term plan. Tsukimichi has none.

And because it has not plan, no thought out rationale or plot, the tone just wanders all over. Lots of illogical plot points.

Vs the manga, which humanizes Makoto much more and adds in more detail, especially around other characters. It's a first rate editing job while not straying too far from the original.

Ah yes, Kuzunoha Company is so bad. Let's see, the Merchant Guild has issues with Kuzunoha because he talked with VIP clients (who actually were the ones to approach him first, but who would believe that), he delegates his capable employees to boring meeting instead of going himself, he employs capable staff regardless of their race, he makes high quality products and charges them at fair prices, and he doesn't flaunt his backers' names to solve his problems. Truly, what an awful company with a terrible boss...
I mean if such a company existed IRL it'd be hated too. Unfortunately powerful corporations want to form cartels and oligarchies. Playing ball is important to keeping all of them and the politicians in their pockets in power. If a new player came on the scene with genuine morality while also running a really good business then yeah they'd be hated. In other words people suck and everyone gets mad when someone shakes up the awful status quo.

It's also worth keeping in mind that the backstabbing part, at least that we were shown, is not in the novel or anime, it was added to the manga to explain why someone would have such a strong hatred for rembrandt to attack his more or less innocent family, so how canon it is to his actual personality must be kept in mind.
Rembrandt's treachery and murders ARE in the LN. (In official translation, it's in "Tome" extra chapter in Vol 2.)

So it's cannon to LN and manga. Anime though never mentions it. (Anime company: "Let's um just leave out Rembrandt's murderous treachery, eh? Might turn off part of our audience.")

Merchant: That's the manga softening the character a bit vs the LN.

Makoto: It's not quite that... Makoto essentially has two personalities: 1) The surface naive, get-along personality. 2) Underneath, something closer to a sociopath. So when Makoto gets pushed to far, he doesn't get hot angry. Rather the surface mask drops away, and you get the inner Makoto.

At end of season 2 in anime you see this. In that fight he gets pushed too far, and he doesn't get hot angry, instead he get's cold and a little cruel. (And he's chi

I like the relationship Rembrandt and Makoto have. Rembrandt did some bad things in the past to gain the status he has but his current self sees his idealistic self of the past in Makoto which he couldn't live up to. Rembrandt wants Makoto to not follow the path he himself did and wants Makoto to do the good things he does with his company rather than being an underhanded merchant like he himself in the past was.

How do you even come to that conclusion? The story criticises both Makoto and Hyumans. How hyumans and their society cannot stand the existence of Makoto who's basically just doing good things for cheap and a bit different looking and constantly pesters him and troubles him that's the entire point of the whole arc. Everyone is after his ass for their own stuck up reason. As for Makoto he's half assed because he's too strong he relies on his strength too much and delegates most of his work to his subordinates. He doesn't think properly about things in long term and is still naive about this world because he's basically been coddled by his subordinates.

Ln sometimes focuses too much on worldbuilding stuff at times rather than the plot but it's kinda been the structure of every arc in the series I haven't read the earlier Ln stuff but every arc starts with a bit of setup then until the middle it is basically slice of life with stuff going on in the background then from middle to end the main things start happening.

Also Yeah Manga's the best one to experience the story with maybe it's the art but it humanises and expresses Makoto and other characters a lot better. In Ln Makoto feels too detached for a good chunk imo which might be intentional but it's pretty boring at the same time.

This reminded me of what I thought when recently re-reading webnovel.
The most likely explanation I could think of for Makoto staying lvl 1 is simply his archery practice. It has already been established that he "kills" himself when doing it which causes his mana/magic amount to increase. (Manga chapter 37) So I assume that it also probably resets person's level as a rebirth. He also does it everyday so there is no chance for his level to increase when he goes to update his adventurer card.
