Always bullied, always the goalie during PE in high school, hit full force in face by the classic lather ball. Broken glasses, broken lip, broken nose, so much blood, four stitches inside mouth, teacher rage, two guys suspended. But the bulling ended that day 😁.

So the blood depend by how much force the ball hit.

Am I the only one that has consistently found the mc as like insanely creepy? It's kinda hard to root for him tbh. Although they do make all the other guys look like trash too but I just kinda don't like him.

I think this actually represents how he actually doesn't like blood, and it was a lie he told himself to look edgy. I find it interesting how he used to say he wanted to see here in distress but when he saw her in distress now he panicked and hated it, and felt greatly disturbed by it.

Also her nose bleed didn't start until she met eyes with him. Could it be doing that anime thing where you get a nose bleed when you see someone you like? Hmmmmm....
He can't even bring himself to properly apply FAKE blood to her face for the cultural festival, even after making changes to make it look more realistic. Maybe even ESPECIALLY after that.

Kyo at this point sees HIMSELF as extremely creepy and we're (mostly) seeing the world in this title through his eyes. He's not who he thinks he is, and this drives a lot of subtle changes here over time.

Anyone else find the sexualization of middle school girls kind of weird in the beginning and ending pages?

I realize it's normal for kids that age to see other kids that way, and it's OK-ish when it's from the perspective of one of the kids the same age in the story, but those extra/full pages seem like pedo bait.

He's meant to be a chuunibyou, that weird phase where he thinks he's some madlad or different from everyone in some crazy way

it's a shounen, so it's primarily targetted at boys around and a bit upwards of that age group
but also im in the age demographic it's targeting, so it's not a wonder why i don't have as much of an issue

Something I like about Ichikawa compared to a lot of similar gloomy, introverted MCs with inferiority complex and low self-esteem is that while he has a lot of negative thoughts inside his head, and he behaves really awkwardly around other people and in social situations, he tends to end up -acting- in a kind, compassionate and courageous way, often to his own surprise. Authors of romance manga and LNs often ask the readers to relate to and root for this type of MC, but often they don't actually do much to justify the love interest's affection. They're often stand-offish and avoidant and it's often up to the love interest to drag them kicking and screaming out of their shell. But Ichikawa, right from the start, despite his inner monologue, constantly takes action to show compassion and help people around him, and the author does a good job of showing how Yamada notices this more and more over time, and how that leads to her letting her guard down around him.

In the parallel universe version of this manga where we're inside Yamada's head instead of Ichikawa's she was definitely in the middle of a "wait shit why am I getting feelings when I look at him" epiphany scene that was comically cut short by getting hit in the face with a basketball.
Nah, not so specific or advanced, it's just like "Why am I looking him so much? I don't get it..."

Reminder that Norio-sensei is a woman and probably identifies with Anna or Chii or such more than the MC, but she still does such a good job writing him as a believable 8th grade boy who thinks he's an outcast, but he's easily the most mature of the bunch, despite his extreme social awkwardness.

Still so many that don't really understand Kyo. A lot seem to get it, but there's still a few that still think he's a creeper. He's just a 13 year old boy dealing with hormones going crazy. For those of us that went through puberty (which should be all of us, outside of incidents beforehand or birth defects), can we say we were perfectly upstanding in our thoughts? And he follows her to make sure she's okay, vast majority of the time, he just doesn't realize that's why he's doing it, at least until this moment when he finally acknowledges his feelings.

We're still a good long while until he admits those feelings to her properly (was an epic scene in the anime), but knowing how you feel is an important step.

Also people saying he's developed a blood fetish clearly didn't understand he's having a horrified reaction to the blood. His delusions are pretty counter to his actual nature.
