Honestly, good move. However, leaving without saying anything is kinda shitty. I think he needs to take a step back. But who am I kidding? It's Sasuga Kei. It won't be simple lol.
I think he was just being considerate as to not wake them up because he was leaving in the middle of the night. He actually still called to tell them, and he made sure it was on a time everyone started waking up.

I really like the way this author portrays relationships. Most romance manga are so far off into fiction territory that it makes Hyakkano not look like a parody - the protagonist's love is never unrequited, whenever they do some dumb shit they are instantly forgiven, their love is so strong it might actually move a mountain or two.

Real romance, though, can be full of petty squabbling, couples often have misaligned goals and expectations, and sometimes the dumbest little shit can cause a break-up to happen. Manga needs more flawed romances like this, and less disney pure-love tropes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he headed home due to something like a family emergency. From what we’ve been shown of him, he isn’t really the type to disappear in the middle of the night without even leaving a note

That was my expectation but it's Sasuga Kei we're talking about, she could just keep using the most contrived and overblown drama techniques known to mankind

Very true but I think a note could've helped alleviate some of the stress. Although, if he left because of an emergency then I can totally understand him not leaving a note.

These characters have the kind of emotional handling skills of toddlers.

One decides they have changed over the past week they have been dating, immediately telling the guy, who is supposed to be mentally grown up, she doesn’t see himself having a family with the guy.

The guy proceeds to leave everything behind to move with his parents because the immature girlfriend dump him.

Def a high possibility that Kei knows we expect some sort of super drama and subverts our expectations. Though I sorta of still want him to take a step back from relationships. if only for a week lol.

“Did something happen?” the artist guy had the nerve to ask that when he’s doing backflips of joy inside?

Bro was right to get out of there for a bit. Cohabitating with her is just too intense when your feelings are this raw. He’s really beating himself up but aside from that one insensitive comment what did he do wrong?

He’d been cheated on savagely and she knew that but still did nothing to give him any reassurance. His state of mind was predictable and preventable… still not a good look though.

Honestly it sucks but those two are not good for each other. I think maybe it just looked good at first by comparison to him getting back with his cheating ex?

Welcome to the diverse and complex character writing of Sasuga Kei. Strap in because the angst is only starting.

ah yes, mutual one-sided love...huh?
The original Japanese is 両片思い and refers to where two people are in love but neither confesses their feelings for the other. Obviously they know how each other feels (or now, felt) but because of the house rules against dating, they were hiding the fact they were dating so even if their other roommates found out they liked each other, it'd just look like mutually-unrequited love.
