Oh yeah, now I really remember why I hate Sue. Lord, give me strength to withstand this arc.
Yeah, I don't mind an OP character opposing our OP protagonist, but she is insufferable. Except for the connection (Her dad, killed by Tanya), she lacks the "gravitas" from De Lugo/Viento, the Drakes, etc.
Viento playing Uno Reverse on the Empire & Tanya was a great moment.
So far, she is the only antagonist I dislike.

Damn, Troubadour was cool but it makes sense for him to die here considering he was relatively on par with White Silver

And yeah yeah Mary Sue sucks but she's supposed to be the sheer opposite of Tanya, operating off of emotion and instinct instead of logic

The movie covered this next arc, though it skipped the war in the desert bit, though it covered a lil bit of it in the opening.
Thanks for the info, I haven't seen the movie yet. So, the manga isn't as much ahead of the anime as it seems?
Gotta hate when authors introduce a cool character only to be killed by a way less interesting antagonist, i do not think im going to like this arc
These scenes are supposed to show how badass the antagonist is, but as you said, it's just disappointing when the characters are too cool to die so quickly and boringly.

I like the aesthetics and action of this type, how long will it take for the anime to get to this point? Season 2 is coming soon...well, I guess.
In the anime there’s gonna have to be a shit ton of hand waiving to make this possible considering that in the movie they’re already in russy while in the novels they’re fighting over the dodobird channel and defending the UK until they get sent to the russy federation by the giant ocean liner where Tanya and Mary’s first confrontation happens.

So, season two will probably have some editing of events one way or another? In terms of tempo and sequence of segments.

The manga has always differed from the original story to some extent, but with this chapter, it will effectively be a completely different story now.
Youjo Senki (LN) does not have any mages that are strategic weapons. They are only effective on the tactical level. Mary Sue is an amazing powerhouse, but ultimately not important in the larger scheme of things.
It's Tanya's strategic insights that make her capable of actually influencing the overall direction of the war.

With that and the change in personality of Tanya, I'm struggling to accept this work as its own thing, rather than just an incorrect depiction of the original.

Yes, in the anime timeline they already deployed to russy but for novels/manga they’re currently deployed in londinium and eventually fight in the Battle of Albion.

So either 1. they’re going to Bring the volunteers back to Albion to get redeployed back to the federation, 2. they’ll do the battle without the volunteer force present, or 3. They’ll skip over the battle. Which would be a shame because the part where they hold up the civilian police at gunpoint to free a captured pilot was hilarious.

Can they use this material for OVAs? Or do these changes somehow "undo" these moments?
