To be honest, I'm not sure if Kururi's place is in that blacksmight council for the time being. One might say he hasn't necessarily yet found his own path of blacksmithing fully. That is, he still ought to be far from creating his best works. Maybe it would also be good for all council members to already have had their own apprentices who managed to become independent. Having taught others successfully sounds like a crucial factor for such a position, though maybe not critical. But if that council is supposed to actually do something public, then it could be important. The Dartanels frame up Kururi with the help of one of the blacksmiths, getting him sent to jail, and try to steal Eliza in the meantime. By the time Kururi gets bailed out, she's gone missing and he turns the Kingdom upside down looking for her...
