It has been completely realistic so far with its match-ups tho
Which kind of makes me wonder. Why, even bother using realistic fighting techniques, logic, and tactics from the start? I mean if you’re not gonna follow through on all aspects of realistic had to hand combat why bother?

Stuff like this is why I respect Kengan Ashura. They make it clear that they’re not at all trying to be as realistic as possible by having the first major technique introduced to be in McDojo magic.

It’s not as interesting by itself as the thought put into Manga like Teppu, Alrounder Meguru, and(a manga that isn’t scared shitless of allowing MCs to lose to objectively superior opponents,) Ippon Again.

But I respect Kengan Ashura because it knows what it is and doesn’t try to backpedal on ya! I’d go as far as to say Ashura is a accurate summary of how to perfectly introduce a stories themes in just three major fights

Damn, a one hit knockout? If only…
She probably playing possum or whatever to lower his guard.

Or she gets up and laugh off the hit, lol.
I’m really hoping this fight is a fake out or a set up for something else because imo there is no emotional, logical, or philosophical reason here to make you want to root for her this time. especially when the one she’s fighting is objectively right on everything they’ve said. Even the MC is in the right for wanting better teaching

I don't agree with the whole 'mass can't be beaten' thing, especially in fiction, but it would be much more meaningful for her character to take the loss here. That guy is a skilled professional fighter after all, so he's not just all muscle.
It'd display some nuances and maybe even growth.
What is it about this manga that screams realism in any way again?

I do hope the author does. it'd break my suspension of disbelief if she could beat someone twice her weight (especially as a woman). even mighty mouse isn't able to do so irl
She already beat multiple men at once.

I agree on some level that for her character it'd be nice if she did lose herself. But I think it's a bit early for that right now, especially since she's the massive wall the mc wants to overcome. If he starts getting close and then she loses that'd be much better.

I think this falls on the spectrum of baki/kengan just fine, because it did start with martial arts and techniques and then went to piss tetrahedrons. It's kengan style because they still did use "real" techniques. Just to a ridiculous scale. It's still early so who knows if it goes forward in that direction. Realism can't just be "uses punches and kicks that we use" when all the other aspects are already unrealistic, just not fantastical yet.

This has been the most realistic chapter I've seen yet. Can't wait to get mad at the next chapter for completely undoing it (probably)

My primary concern is that a victory over him would essentially dissolve any suspension in future encounters

The next chapter is "it".
Either it's your regular anime BS with girl standing up, smirking and saying "I knew you're going to punch me in the face, good thing I made my face especially hard so it absorbed all the impact".
Or she actually just being unconscious.

99 % it's the first, coming from Kakegurui I don't expect some great level of writing and realism here (only when it comes to Majo Taisen, there, for some reason, the author shines, maybe because it's literally magic BS)

Like I am sorry okay, highschool girl beating up thugs, basically experienced in fights men, already a huge stretch, but for the fun of it sure, but a highschool girl beating up MMA fighter... only if she's possessed by Mike Tyson or Bruce Lee.
The regular Tyson, not the one who "fought" Logan Paul

It’s not really the same. Kengan started off with a man beating the shit out of another dude three times his size and dislocating his entire arm by using Bullshido magic

This series starts off by laying out the strengths and weaknesses of modern day point Fighting Karate and the false sense of confidence it gives certain types of karate practitioners. Then having it systematically dismantled.

Even her second major fight the problem at hand is solved in a(no pun intended)grounded manner. Which is ground fighting being used to nullify the physical strength of someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing with their back against the floor

To jump from that to her most likely obliterating a world HW champion is understandably a Major blow to a person suspension of disbelief, kinda kills the excitement of what’s to come, and feels like a betrayal of the grounded “fighting system” presented so far imo.

And to be honest with you, most of my frustration comes from the fact that the stories original premise was so much better, but instead we kind of got the author being forced to write whatever this is because of his editor

Yeah it’s like when Hollywood actors have it in their contract that any character they play can’t lose. Kinda just takes a baseball bat to the tension of the fights. Which is disastrous for a story that revolves around those fights

I don't think you can really get up after a punch like that, especially if you're a dainty school girl. No matter how crazy hot violent you are.
