A good reminder that the commander maybe powerful and skilled, but at the end of the day, he's just one person. He's not the isekai protagonist, he's not some one man army. Even though he wins his and his team's battles, it's not going to be enough to win the war.

When I think about it, Garback was most definitely gonna keep pushing forward. However, with the sight of grey (purposely?) coughing, he realizes the two newbies can’t continue the advance and is forced to retreat. And I think that he really does care about his squad mates, with how he listens to greys signal that they have to fall back. Overall very solid so far (are they actually gonna reach the end of the wn?)

Had nothing to do with grey coughing. Commander got messaged through his communication device that the rest of the army couldn't keep up with them. Their rear defense points aren't secured and probably empty, so it's just a matter of time until the enemy charges them to take back the positions.
"Blitzkrieg" is a very powerful strategy, but only if his squad isn't the only one doing it.
