Where was he even hit? Kinda unclear. This manga is awesome but if I have one point of criticism, it's the art. It is often so messy, it's hard to figure out what's going on.

I think he just slipped after climbing the trench since its all muddy,full of bullet debris and stuff, i doubt they got shot since commander is in front tanking bullets with his shield magic.

In a previous chapter I commented about how I thought it odd that they didn't use conventional ammo for their artillery due to cost. A standard shell is quite powerful, but if their normal is a magical cluster bomb that effectively erases everything alive or moving it touches, then yeah. Our normal artillery is just a joke.
