Magic tech has been an established thing in this world, it’s just that we haven’t seen much of it as they explained that it’s expensive to make and expensive to purchase the bigger contraptions. Remember how much it cost Alan to get taught how to make the items, and then how much he was able to sell them for? They weren’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

Also keep in mind that this is a king that’s laying siege to the territory, so it’s not out of the ordinary for a king to use his treasury to get the best toys for war.

As for your comment about the mines, it isn’t outside of the realm of possibility for them to know how to use a fancy bomb. Instead of using a fuse they have a “magic” button to press to trigger them, so it’s easy to see how knights wouldn’t be surprised.

Finally they counterattack. Using mines and drones isn't a bad choice, but I question the need to actually send out swordfighters as well. Given the enemy's 100 to 1 numerical advantage, there is simply no reason to fight them fair and square at any point. The defenders should be as unfair as possible if they truly plan on minimizing casualties.

Also, Selena duelling Agostini is certainly for theatrics and not a very sound tactical choice. They could instantly end him with one precise drone strike, energy rifle shots, an artillery barrage or a dragon attack, but for some reason they want to put on a show with blades. Action fanservice I guess.

They have massive particle accelerator cannons, laser rifles, combat mechs, hundreds of unmanned drones that can one-tap people, a dragon, and who knows what else.. Not a SINGLE shot was fired, they let them break through two walls with trebuchets for some reason, and then went straight to bows and swords.. Even basic-ass modern artillery has a range of like 30km+. They could've wiped out most of them before they even got anywhere near the city without a single casualty.. Or limit the bloodshed to an absolute minimum by drone striking the kings and generals, and going down the chain of command until they turn around and leave.. It's not like there's any downside or countermeasure..
