Shredding her into pieces was poor planning on the mermaid's part. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, they can encase that awful woman in lead and concrete and drop her into an oceanic trench.

If it turns out she caued the accident where her family drowned, it won't be mere mince meat: it will be a race betwen fish-girl and fox-girl to see who renders her flesh into molecule-sized chunks first

Does this mean Humans can cast spells too?:shamihuh:
Also surprise german
I thought it was the 'bodyguard' youkai who cast the spell on the schoolteacher.

I assume they're referring to the fact that Azami ...I guess "glamoured" Hinako into believing she was Hinako's aunt; when Hinako checks the text/chat log on her phone, you can see it glitching out in the same manner as that info sheet had when she first learns how Shiori inserted herself into Hinako's school, way back in the story.

And to that - I think the line is that assuming Azami's bodyguard didn't pull that trick, then Azami has eaten monsters since she was turned immortal by Shiori.
There's no express explanation given on what powers Azami absorbed from Shiori's flesh other than immortality, and given she feels extra terrifying to our three monsters present (Tanuki-chan in particular who seems to be sensitive to these sorts of things), I'm wagering she's got a pile of monsters inside her now, and a bunch of powers to boot (like the shapeshifting thing she also showcased) - I'm guessing all for the express purpose of coming after and killing Shiori.

I think this chapter made it pretty clear that Erika was the one who cast spell on Yamashita. Also, all previous revelations about Azami (coming all from Tsubaki, to be fair) until she showed up noted that she is human, and Azami herself said she needed the bodyguard because she was too weak on her own. Remember that there is no general "if you eat a yokai you got its power" rule existing in either this manga or Yokai mythology. It's very particular for Ningyo that their myth revolves around the effects of eating them. That said, there is nothing preventing this theory from being proven true later, I guess.

It is also worth noting that the term for "spell/magic" in the original Japanese manga is "呪", which could also be—and in fact more often—translated as "curse". This might imply that the mind-altering spell is not supposed to be a good thing to cast on humans, hence Shiori being enraged knowing Azami used it on Hinako. Of course, we would then wonder why it's fine for Shiori and Miko to just use similar curses on everybody.

I admit I also just assume Azami is being deceitful, and simply saying she's weak on her own, doesn't mean that's true. That also can imply she's physically weak, hence having a bodyguard; but that she's far from helpless, or doesn't have utility that makes her strong/dangerous in other ways.

You are correct that there's no indication that "eating monster gives you its power", other than we know that consuming Shiori's flesh conferred immortality on Azami. I do think that alone says that something happens when a human eats a monster's flesh. Whether that's a special case because of what Shiori is, I guess, unknown at this time.

As far as Shiori's rage - I read that as her being angry at Azami contacting Hinako, rather than about the curse/magic being applied to her, especially as she seemed to get angriest when she was asking when Azami put the curse on Hinako, over the imagery of the roiling ocean. Maybe that's a misread on my part, but that was where I saw Shiori really start to shift toward her monstrous form in earnest, signalling that building rage.

In any case, I guess it still remains to be seen. If Azami hasn't gained powers of her own in some fashion via whatever method, other than her immortality, she's still clearly dangerous to the point that the three monsters are reacting strongly to her - and given the Tanuki's strong reaction when she has the weakest bond of the three toward Hinako, I read it as there being something very dangerous about Azami specifically, and not simply that she was clearly here to come after Shiori, via putting Hinako in danger.

First appearance is way back where Tsubaki appeared. Idk what chapter but it's on Miko's past arc but before all this, it's on the first chapter acting as Hinako's aunt from Ooshima
