He treated life like a game where winning was all that mattered, addicted to the thrill of the win instead of the game, and while he became rich and successful, he was also miserable.

Meanwhile, the other guy saw games as something that's fun to play where winning didn't matter as much and he ended up becoming a pro-gamer who's enjoying life.

I love my isekai slop but oh my god i wish this continued without the isekai, the backstory had so much potential like i was so invested in his journey to revive his love for fighting games while dealing with the guilt of making that girl kill herself.

One of the best first chapters i've seen on this site. Straight to the point, and very, very interesting.

Wow, Daigo Umehara in a manga? He must be in honored. Was he actually bullied because he was too good playing Street Fighter II?

Pretty good start.
Apparently he was beat up as a kid for being too good. I was expecting just a cameo but this one made Daigo an backstory rival for the MC lol. Too bad this is probably going to be just isekai slop and Daigo will never be seen or mentioned again. It's actually kind of funny that this guy's backstory is of similar to Tokido (Daigo's biggest rival), where they both went to highly prestigious universities.

No kidding, huh? I didn't even know that part about Tokido. That guy is a real demon. One of the few players that gave me the chills watching his clips like this one.

Being a pro gamer doesn’t pay the bills either. I don’t know why this manga is trying to paint it as something better for the MC. In fact, I don’t know why the hell people always want to be pro gamers. They’re way too dependent on sponsors, and esports is practically "dying" for money, that’s why they happily complied when Saudi Arabia bought them out.

Also, turning your hobby into your job usually does more harm than good.

I swear to God That The premise Is really interesting and I would like 60~140 Chapter of it where the ending he meets daigo and become best friend like the ending of the shawshank redemption. But like the others before me, I totally forgot this is isekai manga.

If The author can cook the same plot in isekai I would like to give this 100/10. This deserve 9/10 For the premise alone. Most elaborate pre isekai I had ever seen

people dont want the isekai and just wanted him to return as a player, but you have to realize that has no scope in terms of story, unless the author is god himself.
What do you mean by this? As in, “he would have to be God himself to make this work” or “he would have to be a god of fighting games to make this work”? There are tons of very good sports manga out there this has a strong premise and the history of fighting games over the course of time he spent away from them could be explored extensively. We both know Lionel Messi isn’t making blue lock and Mike Tyson isn’t making Ippo but they are still very good sports manga.

I'm so triggered by the fact that 100 yen gets you a play... Last time I saw a fighting game machine at an arcade it was 2€ per game... (350 yen)

Hell no, a promising premise ruined by fantasy isekai slop :haa: . At least he didn't turn into an iconic slightly affeminate generic Japanese 1X year old mc
While i will still read it to see what happens, seem the number of 'dumb' reactions your comment got reminded me of this:

Okay, fine, but what's stopping him from going to another game center? It's not like there's only one game center in town, and surely going to same one all the time wouldn't even be challenging if he's just beating the same people over and over?
Honestly, many old stomping grounds for someone his age aren't doing so great the last couple of years or have since closed. The bigger chains are downsizing & the smaller independent ones are slowly vanishing. Some places these days genuinely only have 1-2 game centres that are truly competitive hubs.

Damn dude, the author cooked up a nice premise before the isekai. Why not stick with that? A story of a middle aged fighting game player wanting to go pro?.

We're talking about his childhood, though? The 90s?
