Now I'm curious about what happened to Nani. I hope we get to see her again!
I could make a wild guess:
After Saya's back from the mission Nani will reveal that she contains consciousness of that person which was copied shortly before her death (pretty much like the dude from chapter 3). Then Nani will say that her mission of raising Saya is done and then she'll say her farewell and turn herself off.

If you want to know (Spoiler of next chapter)

Nani doesn't reveal to Saya if she has or hasn't (won't spoil that) the consciousness of a human, but she's indeed turned off when Saya comes back. If you haven't read the raws, it's a pretty impressive guess. I'm impressed

I suspect the translators simply kept the japanese name.
Nani meaning "what?" in japanese, which would make it a fitting nickname a child gives a caretaker robot, given childrens tendendy to ask "what is this" and "what is that?"
Indeed they use "ナニイ" so she's literally named "what"

  • 私 (watashi): I
  • は (wa): Topic particle (marks "I" as the topic)
  • ナニイ (nanii): A colloquial or stylized way of writing 何 (nani) which means "What"

Bittersweet chapter.

"by coincidence, the industrial city was attacked first"........ we all know that is BULLSHIT of the highest order, not saying Nani is lying... just that if that was a coincidence I am the queen of England... bow down to me, peasants XD.

Nani clearly didn't educate Saya to become a vessel... and she was "programmed" to teach and raise her with love and care... someone really went against the plan of Daigiren with Saya.

Thanks for the translation! I really like this series, and it's very cool to be finally getting some answers on how the crystalosis and executioners came.
