Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

From what the mods have been saying in this thread, it seems the legal team is telling them that specific series have to be canned or else there'll be legal repercussions, and they're responding to that. Manga piracy naturally isn't legal in itself, but there's a difference between doing something illegal and being in trouble for doing something illegal. In the latter case there's more of a need to respond to it. It's similar to say if you're speeding down a highway, you're breaking the law, but if you see a police car coming up, you'll slow down to avoid getting in trouble. They're following the law more closely due to eyes being on them for certain material, and they'll remove that material due to that. It's similar to Mangadex having to respond to DMCA takedowns for certain series. Just because they're a Manga piracy site doesn't mean they're going to blindly poke the hornet's nest every time they get in trouble. Sucks that this is happening, but it's kind of the inevitable outcome when a piracy site gets enough traffic.

Taking the mods at their word is a sucker's game. They've not exactly proven themselves to be trustworthy here.

Then nothing they say will ever change your mind, so conversation at that point is pointless. Seems the only thing people are looking for in that instance is for them to grovel for forgiveness. You could say that they could also reverse the changes, but they can't really do that if their explanations are trustworthy, so then things stalemate.

I have read through 54 pages of this forum. Not how I planned on spending my holiday off from work.

At this time, everything that can be said, has. What happens next will be wholly dependent on MangaDEX's choice. The community has stated their desired outcome and it is clear little else will be accepted.

Regardless, it will do little to stem the hemorrhaging that has flowed from this debacle, but one can always hope for a resuscitation. It is safe to say that the majority of people aware of the transgressions will only proliferate from here on. The future actions of the site will be subject to even more scrutiny than before.

I will give props to Bartolumiu for trying to maintain some decorum. It is no small feat to quell an angry mob.

I will say, that due to the many recent events around the subject matter(lolisho content), people are rightfully stigmatized over any action taken against said content. It is the single most affected demographic from moral busy bodies trying to get their moral superiority over.

Actions speak louder than words, as they say. If Gelbooru can allow lolis I don't see why mangadex cannot.

Also note that they look into restoring the deleted series as at least data, but currently have to hide them because of a Unidentified Tyrant abusing the law, who is the true enemy in this scenario.

With that, I don't think there is much purpose with this thread anymore.
They are silent because there is legal trouble afoot and being a blabbermouth during that is a very stupid thing.

All that a user can do, if they actually care, is to think about constructive ways to help secure the site in the future.

A piracy site wanting to follow the law? You can try all you want, you are never going to be Crunchyroll.
They’re going to be worse considering they never learned that the window to become huge like Crunchyroll/Fakku has long since passed. We already have several official manga distribution sites & if they’re just going to promote the most popular, MD won’t make it far.

If they were in a jurisdiction where lolis were illegal, it makes no sense that it is only now becoming an issue while there has been a tag dedicated to it up to this point.
Things become issues as they're brought up. DMCA takedowns was one of the initial examples used. It's always illegal to steal and distribute copyrighted content, but becomes something you need to address when there's threat of legal action. Loli was likely there because people want loli, but when it becomes something you're targeted for legally, then it becomes a liability to the site even if it's preferable for the userbase to keep it.

Right, shit-slinging and name-calling is staff privilege, after all.
Having a full-on religious debate about trans people in the replies of a thread about loli censorship is not conducive to the discussion. I don't think I can make it any plainer than that

I've stopped caring about the insults being thrown around, just make it creative and not the same ol same ol.
Make at least part of this fun for me while I babysit the thread

why the fuck there's religion stuff in a topic about manga getting deleted wtf
Our legal department told us to take action and we took it. That is the extent of what I can or want to say regarding that.
I....find that a refreshing 'what the fuck'

they better generate an explanation of why the hell is this a legal risk, and do that EVERY TIME before deletion of something over their demand, coz if you let legal do legal fully, y'all gonna ended up have to close the site
manga readers should not be affected by such stupid things, they are already escaping reality

@Xnot also tried, and he did answer with professional mentality, props

also, BIG YES! the reason people freaking out is exactly because of this reason. we just wanna read something without some big tech/corpo/brother/gov try to nanny us with moral bullshit WHEN EPSTEIN FILES ARE STILL REDACTED LIKE THEY CAN PISS OUT THE INK

Then why don't you just lock this thread and be done with it? It's not like there's anything productive coming out from either side. Some people won't be happy, but you can hardly damage the reputation of the staff more than a certain someone already did.

Or do you just want to see how utterly retarded a large portion of your userbase is to feel better about yourself?
