Maybe you're too young to remember, but TPB was taken to court and it's operators jailed and fined.ThePirateBay don't get sued
There is absolutely no way y'all are naive enough to think that's actually true. That is and has always been a checkbox people click when they upload their scans.Upon uploading content, the user confirms to us that they are authorized by the copyright owner to upload the material, so there is some additional nuance regarding one user or point in time versus another.
What an absolute joke of a response. Genuinely laughable that you typed all of this out, especially the first paragraph. At this point the only reason why I think you can't tell us what made your legal team respond in this way is because you KNOW it makes you all look bad. Other platforms have been able to tell us when the governments of certain countries have pressured them, so it can't be because of that.Upon uploading content, the user confirms to us that they are authorized by the copyright owner to upload the material, so there is some additional nuance regaring one user or point in time versus another. The issues with the loli content is more intrinsically related to the material itself, so you can expect it to be enforced more strictly to some degree.
The titles were wiped because it was the safest and fastest action to take at the time. We want to have the title pages available, though some of them have covers that might require editing beforehand.
Our legal department told us to take action and we took it. That is the extent of what I can or want to say regarding that.
I think he is talking about how TPB operates right now, which is decentralized with multiple servers and has little to no moderation, which made it actually become unsafe. But at the same time there are dozens of alternatives that use loopholes and breaches to host files as TPB did back in the day safely and with moderation to some extent, the main issue of many of those hosting websites is when the operators try to be well know with the public, which makes them easier to find, be fined and possible jailed.Maybe you're too young to remember, but TPB was taken to court and it's operators jailed and fined.
Taking the mods at their word is a sucker's game. They've not exactly proven themselves to be trustworthy here. From what the mods have been saying in this thread, it seems the legal team is telling them that specific series have to be canned or else there'll be legal repercussions, and they're responding to that. Manga piracy naturally isn't legal in itself, but there's a difference between doing something illegal and being in trouble for doing something illegal. In the latter case there's more of a need to respond to it. It's similar to say if you're speeding down a highway, you're breaking the law, but if you see a police car coming up, you'll slow down to avoid getting in trouble. They're following the law more closely due to eyes being on them for certain material, and they'll remove that material due to that. It's similar to Mangadex having to respond to DMCA takedowns for certain series. Just because they're a Manga piracy site doesn't mean they're going to blindly poke the hornet's nest every time they get in trouble. Sucks that this is happening, but it's kind of the inevitable outcome when a piracy site gets enough traffic.
Then nothing they say will ever change your mind, so conversation at that point is pointless. Seems the only thing people are looking for in that instance is for them to grovel for forgiveness. You could say that they could also reverse the changes, but they can't really do that if their explanations are trustworthy, so then things stalemate.Taking the mods at their word is a sucker's game. Actions speak louder than words, as they say. If Gelbooru can allow lolis I don't see why mangadex cannot. Then nothing they say will ever change your mind, so conversation at that point is pointless. Also note that they look into restoring the deleted series as at least data, but currently have to hide them because of a Unidentified Tyrant abusing the law, who is the true enemy in this scenario. From what the mods have been saying in this thread, it seems the legal team is telling them that specific series have to be canned or else there'll be legal repercussions, and they're responding to that. Depends where the servers are located. Different countries, different laws.Actions speak louder than words, as they say. If Gelbooru can allow lolis I don't see why mangadex cannot.
If they were in a jurisdiction where lolis were illegal, it makes no sense that it is only now becoming an issue while there has been a tag dedicated to it up to this point.Depends where the servers are located. Different countries, different laws.
They’re going to be worse considering they never learned that the window to become huge like Crunchyroll/Fakku has long since passed. We already have several official manga distribution sites & if they’re just going to promote the most popular, MD won’t make it far.A piracy site wanting to follow the law? You can try all you want, you are never going to be Crunchyroll.
