So keep around half a dozen in rotation, adding in new stones as the old ones deplete, and you might be able to keep a single engine for twenty years, instead of just two (barring any other factors).

Then again, planned obsolescence is kind of a big thing in the tech industry.

Nice theory, but magic stones are still expensive. The waste stone might be useless after partial attuning to the engine. That’d just waste stones. Hence their current option.

perhaps with better technology there’d be a way to suspend the stone in a magnetic field to shield from attunement and extract more balanced power from the stones, extending use life.

'Cause the only significance "Cohen" has to me is that it's a super common Jewish surname. I sure as hell hope that's not enough to make it an "Evil name" for you.

Only notable fictional Cohen I can recall offhand is Cohen the Barbarian, from the Discworld books.

Arumi/アルミ is just a common JP way of saying aluminum. She says アルミの件 (alumi no ken) in the raw; ken means matter in the sense of an event or topic (a thing-to-be-discussed). It's the same ken in "jiken" (incident/case), which you see a lot in e.g. occult/detective manga.

I think it’s more like magic is a living thing.

The engine itself is like a body and the Magic Crystal itself is like a organ, when the crystal runs out of mana it needs to be replaced like a organ but the body (engine) rejects the new organ (magical crystal).

What they need to do it find a medicine/ magic that stops the engine from rejecting the crystal.
