I know that you just lost your friend, but she died because you all let your guard down. Maybe you should keep the tears in check until after you safely make it back? Hard to do, but you're soldiers.

This was their first major outing as a knight unit. They're not all hardened warriors long-tested in battle.
This sort of reaction is pretty understandable in the moment, as this is their first fallen comrade in their first real fight, after questionable amounts of actual training and drilling because they were all spares of spares and given no real thought by either the Crown or their families.

They quite literally lack the discipline to not have a moment of mourning over their fallen friend, and it's justified in this very chapter with Hannah's narration about how none of them were given a chance before the Second Princess--who herself has been neglected in most official capacities.

This is one of the biggest bait and switch plots for a manga I've ever seen. First few chapters makes you think it's a boobie plot where stacked royals thirst after the only hunk in the world. Instead it's whatever this genderbent knights of the round table is trying to be. And now I'm sad because they're getting killed off. Super weird.
