To everyone wondering about the "change in tone" - it's always been there. The story and world is more than just the knight guy, and the WN carries this sort of "comedy/drama" balance and quality consistently through.
Yes, the softcore porn probably makes it seem like it should just be dumb harem slop, but erotica and drama aren't mutually exclusive traits of storytelling. I'm honestly happy that there was an author who wanted to make something with a bit more depth to the world and characters, even if the premise is fairly "off the wall" and tends to trend more low-effort among other titles that use it.

This is one of the biggest bait and switch plots for a manga I've ever seen. First few chapters makes you think it's a boobie plot where stacked royals thirst after the only hunk in the world. Instead it's whatever this genderbent knights of the round table is trying to be. And now I'm sad because they're getting killed off. Super weird.

Caroline's last thoughts being of her daughter and her knights, Hannah's of Princess Valerie and the guard.

I too was expecting "haha horny ladies" but now we're hit with actual story.

The point was that it was tone deaf. Zabine was either trying to raise morale in the same way that she conscripted the villagers, by blowing past their current emotional reactions with force of will, missed that Hannah was dying, or was trying to willfully ignore that fact. I'd argue either the first or the last are most likely, given that she is also known for being a "might makes right" aristocrat when she is not a horny monkey.

yeah - it's because she's the captain of this unit.
She's attempting to swing things back in a morale sense, because they did overwhelmingly rout the enemy and suffering a single death like they did is astounding, given this was their inaugural campaign under the 2nd Princess.
But because it was their first actual combat experience, none of them are hardened to the reality. Losing someone that was effectively family for them was brutal. Hannah was the "baby" of their group as well.
Zabine is attempting to "be a leader" and keep things positive, but her attempt didn't land.

would like to be sad but honestly the manga was so slow that i hate they take a full chapter just to tell the story of a side character and why her dead is sad. im not against it, i like that kind of story. Just not in the mood for it. damn
