So the WN clears up his behavior a lot more. I'll summarize:
For a while now, his childhood friend had only been talking about Ralph whenever they were together. Instead of anyone having any empathy for his situation, despite the fact he was actually as strong as Ralph (Ralph is only a rank 2 adventurer because of his experience, not his actual combat ability on its own), veteran adventurers he asked for advice, who could have fixed (or helped fix) the situation, told him to learn from Ralph instead of doing anything helpful.
This had been happening for a while, and he had been getting drunk to ignore the pain of the situation.
This time, he had quickly finished a job to show his competence to his childhood friend, and for the first time, she ignored him completely (she's the poster girl for the guild bar).
So he gets drunk, hears his friends talk about Ralph's new girl, sees her, and intends to bully her to feel better about the situation. However, Haruka's stoic face didn't react the way he wanted, and being drunk, thought she was now looking down on him, making him angrier that yet another person involved with Ralph was metaphorically sucker-punching him.
He did not intend to do any more than scare her or, once angry enough, teach her a lesson through regular violence. The things he said and the groping were meant to add to the fear factor.
So, while I won't defend the actions he did, I can say the WN makes it clear he wasn't going to rape Haruka.
He's an irresponsibly drunk guy with some heavy circumstances and irresponsible mentors. And despite what he did, I am comfortable enough saying he does deserve someone better than that childhood friend.
