I watched the original NG:EVA, it was good. That said, I wonder if a writer who writes in the ways previously mentioned in this thread will actually be a good fit?

Well, if they show restraint, probably something amazing. At least, that's what I think.

EVA's a classic for good reason, and its animation isn't as obviously dated as all of the classic Rumiko Takahashi shows were.

The remakes of Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 are delightful, and obviously done by people who love/grew up on the original material.

An EVA TV remake is super weird though, since EVA already got that series of movies a decade or so ago.

Much like the upcoming Ghost in the Shell remake by Science Saru, there's very a much a vibe of "this is completely unnecessary, but let's see what you can do."

Heh. If I remember his age right, Haruka's past-life would've been a teenager when EVA first came out.

Drakengard and Nier would be the more notable things to point to. Basically what you should expect is that everyone is a piece of shit, sometimes in amusing ways sometimes not, everyone suffers, everyone dies horribly, and everything about it is intended to screw with you.
problem is. eva is so absolutely over. the last movie was the end, both of the actual plot, and of the deeper narrative. you can't have another eva because of this. it's going to be a different series themed as eva.
