Sorry, had to do it.

Jean-Luc is a visionary chad who brings steampunk into the world of magic, it seems.

As for why Grace grew up to be a villainess, my guess is when she was growing up and started receiving her noble education, she probably wanted to be seen as a proper lady and was forced to shelve her previous emotions and curiosity about everything (we saw her as a child in one of first chapters), she probably just took things too far and in her pursuit to be a perfect lady she became too abrasive. Most likely Kenzaburo is here to help bring back the old Grace.

Thanks for the chapter.

O . o?

Was that time travel tag there all this time, or was it updated because Jean-Luc has invented a horseless carriage and Grace is about to get caught in an accident where she will be meeting a much younger Grandfather...

Though I'm not sure she's going to do as well playing a lute at the class fair.

Definitely feels like Grace wanted to be like her grandma, or something. Still seems odd that that's how she turned out ... but given how the manga is mostly comedy I also don't really expect anything too complex or heavy in her background.

You know, I was wondering about that myself some time ago. Especially after we saw real Grace that one time in front of dragoon and then in the cage again. And what comes to my mind is... lazy writing of a character.

Grace has been left alone for small amount of time before going into academy. Her family was there for her entire life before that and giving their personalities there was no way she would have been anything other than empathic and kind. The little explanation we got was that one segment from her flashback where she says "nobody is here with me now so I must give it my best". And her best was to shout on servants and act as a bully?

Look at this:

This is a face of a girl who didn't saw her grandmother for quite some time (I am pretty sure it is Grace's reaction as Ken didn't even know before this that grandmother exists) and you are telling me that this is the same person that would bully people around and push them from the stairs?

Poor original Grace was written to be a villainess for the sake of needing one for the game. She didn't deserved that fate at all, damn those lazy writers at game studio... Good thing for Ken to be isekai-ed into her and fixing the entire thing. :meguu:

I'm thinking there's a yet-to-be-introduced "friend" or servant who told original Grace that if she wants to be like her Grandmother or possibly the grandmother suffered from being to nice so to avoid that she has to be uptight and strict. Also I think they probably indirectly threatened her family by saying things like "If you act too kind to lesser nobles, your family will get taken advantage of and everyone will be unhappy" as a way to control Grace.
