You gotta realize, this is an empire that spans an entire galaxy and has a ton of corruption. A lot of nobles have corsairs that work directly under them and receive funding, old ships, and other support.

I get that he has several sources for constant cash flow, but surely not enough to constantly pump out armadas upon armadas of ships and the personal to man them (which passively drain his funds the more shit he buys...)

Don't forget Liam got the Alchemy cube from much earlier on in the series. He can transmute less valuable resources into more valuable resources.

I'm a bit weirded by the numbers, I know there are many planets and all but a pirate fleet of 30000 ships seems ginormous, like epic war numbers.

It's kinda like Star Wars. The Empire has Tens of Millions of systems and to patrol it, they must have hundreds of millions of ships

Space thugs, they're dime a dozen. If a regular guy can buy under the table guns in america, what more so for gangs and crime syndicates.
Now exponentialy increase the scope into the space age era, its not just China making things cheap, but a whole planet used for production.
And going with Strongest Starship's explination, space pirates ships are ofren stolen merchant vessels modded for speedy hit and runs.

Uh, in case you missed it, Liam does have infinite stores of wealth. His "treasure box" that is capable of transmuting metals is the source of it all and he got it early on by crushing the pirate king Goaz (revealed in chapter 13). His planets are also developing (and thus providing more wealthier taxpayers) while administered mostly by Amagi approved individuals (or audited by his robo maids).

The real issue Liam actually has is lacking more capable soldiers. Despite the scale you see thus far in the manga, Liam has never outnumbered his enemies. This is ironically because of his "heroic" reputation and allies. Only the most upstanding people apply and most of them are manhandled by his 2 current leading knights (Tia and Marie).

Liam's fleet and military only starts growing thanks to a "dangerous master tactician knight" in Klaus, the most average knight yet with an uncrackable master poker face.
There are many more knights and officers in the spin-off as a result of the resources Liam has been investing in his military.

This is a galactic empire, scale is completely different. As a comparison, the US ended WW2 with around 7000 naval vessels; this is a conflict between parties that control dozens to hundreds of planets.

It's also relatively small scale. An actual war between the Empire and another nation later involves more than 20x as many ships, and was expected to take decades to resolve.

Pirates and privateers were different things, many pirates started as privateers but piracy was illegal and Blackbeard was a criminal when he became one.

I think it's more that the time scale is poorly represented by the chapter; I think there are several time skips in it, since it takes time to build infrastructure, to build the weapons and deliver them.

There are pretty substantial time skips... the period decided to promote him to rear-admiral was set at two years.. next panel.. he's rear-admiral.

It's easy to forget the peeps in this universe are long lived.... You have to think about elvish standards of time here...
Can't be bothered to check, but the whole military academy + bureaucratic training + the military service to the empire takes the better part of a century.
Our MC isn't even considered an adult yet... Just a promising teen/adolescent who still has to be officially confirmed as an adult and a Noble..

In this universe, medical technology is able to keep people alive for thousands upon thousands of years. Repairing castration shouldn't be difficult or particularly expensive. Slavery just means more people holding a grudge against you (on top of all of the grudges we already see). Liam is acting like an EFFECTIVE villain, who's studied up on the Evil Overlord's Guide. The kind that doesn't make for a good foil but rather does a good job as a villain protagonist.
