He left the most complicated to deal with for last but, he might actually give Hebi a good gift with how thoughtful he was with the others
There is only one gift he can give Hebi to cheer her up:
a hazmat suit and spatter guard for when he horks again

Don't forget her mother's boyfriend is also trying to fuck her and she has to keep an appropriate distance with him by keeping him happy so that he stays with her mom while also keeping him at a distance. Snake is easily best girl.
I don't doubt he is, but did we get confirmation?

I sort of don't mind the author playing Hebikawa's situation straight, and also keeping it 'veiled' but given the level of fake-outs and double-fakeouts (and especially with the reluctance of Japanese publications to handle paid-dating with highschool girls so a mangaka might intend for it to be what you see on the tin but then forced to change it to a fake-out)
I do wish the mangaka would give us an explicit "Yes this what is actually going down" with Hebi.

Are you asking whether Hebikawa is actually doing compensated dating?

Because she's not. The only time we see anything of the sort is explicitly with her mom's boyfriend, and it's her telling Keisuke a lie right before the reader sees her actually stressed out over having to "make nice" with the guy. And now we have the other side, where she's doing it to keep him in her mom's life, because despite how mad the one-sided nature of it all it all makes her, Hebikawa values her mom's happiness.

It has nothing to do with non-hentai authors generally skirting any depiction of minors doing compensated dating, and everything to do with Hebikawa's character simply not doing that. Some people here have decided it's true and have just run with it without any actual evidence to it happening outside of this specific contextual circumstance with her mom's boyfriend, because Hebikawa is a polarizing figure and the side that doesn't like her really doesn't like her.

we haven't gotten explicit confirmation that its the mom's boyfriend though unless I'm forgetting something.

I'm not a snekh8r, and honestly her ...following her mom's footsteps provides a compelling arc.
It would also be compelling if its a misunderstanding, or if its mom's BF, or if its her biodad, or even a former BF Hebi is using as a willing ATM. I'm just saying I wish we'd get an explicit "this is what's going on" because its hard to shift "foreshadowing" from "build up to a fake out" on this subject.

With this much foreshadowing on snek's family and with snek's villain nature, I honestly think snek might win over the MC only for them to breakup by the end of high school (after MC fixing some of snek's family/behavioural problems).

Then maybe MC and titular FMC will continue into the same university and the story would end there as a new one begins.

Lmao, what consensus? Literally just at any other chapter with a Snek appearance post 36. You're not nearly oppressed as you think are.
Countering hate comments? Where? Because I must've missed them. All I've seen is page after page of people explaining why Hebikawa is actually the most fascinating, tragic, and well-written character in the series.

You wrote a whole psychological breakdown to justify her behavior. Sure, she has a sad backstory, but you're acting like you're standing up to a crowd of haters when that crowd barely exists. If anything, the actual unpopular opinion here is saying, "Maybe using someone to hurt an innocent person isn't exactly okay," and then getting dogpiled for it.

This isn't really pushing back against hate. It's just another "my problematic oshi has layers" post. You're piling onto the consensus, not pushing back against it.

she previously said to mc she has never dated but have been confessed to alot. It's her mom BF, she said his name when they ran into each other, see ch. 29.
she is playing nice with him so he wouldn't leave her mom.

I didn't say I was oppressed. I said the consensus is overwhelmingly positive toward her, and the people who push back get dogpiled. Those are observations, not a victim complex. You're arguing against something I didn't say.

The thing with snek is that there is absolutely nothing else going on in the story outside of her and naturally whenever she shows up, there is something to talk about. She kinda became a meme at this point because again, there is nothing else going on. She is single handedly carrying any narrative value this story has on her shoulders. I can feel the author's need to steer this ship to safer waters over there at the worthless shounen romcom slop territory (and they do whenever Kusunoki is on page) but i think he/she also aware how popular Hebikawa has become among readers.

there was a Xitter poll put out some number of chapters ago where the author asked fans/readers who they liked most.
Hebikawa came in first, Otobe second, and Kusunoki third. The author themself expressed surprise as the result, but that's what was returned via those paying attention enough online to engage. And it was well after the first bit of backstory that we got about Hebikawa and how she's basically "Dark Kusunoki", since they were both kind as children and both were semi-bullied/ostracized, and then both responded differently.

make of that what you will.

you did say "dog/piling" twice in your other comment talking about what happens when people express dislike/criticism of Hebikawa, which can read like you're considering yourself (and others who express the same sentiment) as being "oppressed".

It's not the same vocabulary term, but in fairness it's also not wholly dissimilar.

I mean no wonder the snake girl turned out the way she did, being raised by an emotionally distant self-centered parent with low self esteem parent is rough. You basically have to raise yourself, making you more mature than your age, leaving you feeling ostracized since you can’t relate to people your age. Making you more prone to lie to those around you to fit in as a sort of survival mechanism and developing sociopathic tendencies. While that’s just one of many ways to come out psychologically from that environment, all things considered she came out on the better end of dysfunctional. While I don’t like the Snake girl personally, thought I’d type that out to counter all the low brow snake hate comments she’s received over all the chapters since the author does a pretty good job writing and developing this character.
Your right. However, that dosen't excuse her acfions with forcing herself into his life. So far we have seen nothing from other than toying with him is amusing.

I can see how 'dogpiling' might read that way, but I wasn't claiming oppression. I was describing a pattern, people who criticize her get pushback, often without real engagement. That's not the same as saying I'm a victim. It's just an observation about how the conversation tends to go.

Chapter 33. Start here.

She says his name ("Koji-san") back when he's first introduced (ch.29, p.17), which is corroborated by her mom talking at the start of this most recent chapter.

Your personal feelings toward Hebikawa aside, nothing about what we've been shown points to her actually doing what people here accuse her of doing. And all of that stems from Keisuke himself jumping to conclusions after the end of chapter 29, and even though it was cleared up in the following volume, some readers insist on spreading the lie. It's not a fake-out, and it hasn't been since chapter 33.

I meant former Mom's BF. I don't think she'd have a legit BF who was that old.
