I know for this kind of manga we should not use our brain but come on, first pages: the guy almost drowns, wakes up on a deserted island with nothing, then a few pages later he has a backpack with a first aid kit to conveniently save the girl. It's not even low level of effort at this point, the author is not even consistent after 7 pages...

1000 male: 1 female would be much, much, much worse. Unless women would birth hundreds of babies each time you would not be able to retain your population. Guys would just need to be, very loose.
