The typical crime in this case is existence. She is a halfbreed in a human supremacist society. So they jailed the halfbreed, but kept her around because she could still be of use as a slave, a toy, or experimental subject.

To be fair he is trying to talk things over, its just that the only people we have seen him interact with are Fern or trying to kill him.

first off, thanks for the spoilers. glad this isn't one of those pathetic "gotta catch fuck 'em all" type of self-insert, wish-fulfillment stories. but wouldn't have minded a standard harem with her included, but oh well. and regarding the adaptation: i don't think that in the rare cases where they adapt a webnovel straight to a manga they're gonna make lots of changes. it's usually when it goes from webnovel to light novel that characters get added and backstories get sped up.
