  • I feel like 2020 was a shift in how mainstream anime got

feels like most people besides the normiest of normies have heard of it now

honestly I kinda miss the days when it felt niche, like a hobby mostly shared by chronically online people such as myself

@BakedBanana well, wasn't the biggest tide in 2016? Anyways, at some point in the past decade.

I'd say 2016 is when the normal folks started to notice anime more and memed on it while still calling it cringe, but 2020 is when mostly everyone dived into the medium and "accepted" it, though accepted would be in quotations. :haa:

I feel like there are some differences depending on how much exposure someone has had and what type of person they are

I generally view "normies" as normal people who aren't online much or haven't had much exposure or are only exposed to mainstream stuff, and "weebs" as people who are a lot more invested or are pretty chronically online

I do see the logic in wanting more people with the same hobby though 🤔

@BakedBanana in other words, people who came with The Hombre Incident. I suppose big platforms adding anime helped (instead of just niche ones), also the time zoomers started entering university. Yep, definitely their fault.
Okay so mangadex is prembegging extra hard now, that's good to know

for the record, prembegging (or premium begging) is just when a site or something begs for you to use money, either by spamming you with pop ups or by locking features behind paywalls

I pulled the term out of my ass a while back and idk if someone else already invented it so here's my definition

On the note of my previous post, I think characters having funny interactions or entertaining banter can make a series way funnier, regardless of plot. It's probably one of the central pillars for making a good series, though I imagine this isn't eye opening wisdom.
Recently reread Boku no Kanojo Sensei on another site

I could see some people criticizing it for being really gooner or not having the strongest central plot, though I for one enjoyed the fanservice, and found the character interactions funny

I am a simple man who enjoys simple manga, even if not an objective masterpiece

P.S. Can my phone not spam the translate button while trying to color the name text, thanks :slap:
i think it'd be really funny if someone graded harems based on how dangerous it'd be for a regular person

    factors could include:
    • number of harem members
    • how thirsty they are
    • if they have supernatural powers or weapons
    • personality types (e.g. yandere, Tsundere, or any others that could send MC flying in a cartoonish manner)

probably some others too. I think it'd make for a fun tier list or series.
I started reading Danjohi 1:5 no Sekai demo Futsu ni Ikirareru to Omotta? ~Geki Juu Kanjou na Kanojotachi ga Mujikaku Danshi ni Honrousaretara~ recently. I was a little iffy on it at first due to it being similar conceptually to A Parallel World With a 1:39 Male to Female Ratio Is Unexpectedly Normal, though both are pretty solid.

1:5 seems to focus more on giving characters a genuine attachment to the protagonist, while 1:39 is more of an unhinged comedy.

If you enjoy degenerate mangas, I'd recommend both.

You know I kinda want reversed scenario :meguu:

About girl from that world drifted into our world, then become incredibly popular with men because she so kind. Then realise some of women in this world kind of asshole, even when men kind them.

Obviously not all is asshole, cuz that just misogynistic.

Have a normal girl from our world be her bestie. She warn her not all male is respectable like she think, then there is this story where she were emotionally blackmail by some playboy asshole and get saved by her friend.

That's could work as story if you ask me. If on the other side man being kind and everyone suddenly fall in love, the reversed could also work. Kind of reverse harem

Interesting concept. I don't know how they'd go about husbandos, but I imagine whatever mangaka rolls with this plot would have to toe a fine line. Girls going feral is funny and sometimes waifu material, but I imagine that wouldn't translate very well if you flipped the genders around. The guys would need to have some class.

Having a girl who can help her out is a good idea too though, I 100% agree with that.
2024 has lowkey been me gradually getting enlightened to the fact that A Parallel World With a 1:39 Male to Female Ratio Is Unexpectedly Normal is a work of art that only a true degenerate can appreciate
