Basically romance is not the focus here; the plot and mystery is. This is similar to Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic where romance is sidelined in favour of action, comedy, and character banter.

Pacing-wise the anime took its time unlike some others, only covering the 1st 2 LNs. I recall some people out there (the ANN people) said they didn't like it, because they found the plot too slow and unserious, too much character banter and not enough action.

There is. To give an idea of the manga Vs anime pacing, The manga is only still wrapping up what S1 covered; the 1st 4 LNs. S2 adapted Vols 5, 8-9.

Iirc this elf lady was not in the original WN. All they had was beating the big bad Vampire High Lord, but that was it. She must have been part of the rewrites for the LN/manga version.

Not to mention the manga is still finishing up the 1st story arc that S1 of the anime covered. Meanwhile S2 of the anime is way ahead with the Van arc...
