The main killer is the sparse release schedule. If all you've been presented with in 4 months is the introduction, readers don't have much to go off of to rate the story, not to mention it sets a bad precedent about what they can expect in the future. Life is life, so it's understandable, but...

Romance aspect progressed too fast, in my opinion. We didn't get enough time with the characters and their developing relationship for it to have the impact the author was probably looking for.
