Oof, this was a tough read. Painful when imagining the pain Mahiru had to go through, which she had no control over. Her parents are just scum, and I hope they don't have any kids in the future, as they've shown exactly what any decent parent should NEVER do.

Given that this would be adapting from manga as its source, it can have a bit more hope of being a better adaptation. Light novels (Angel Next Door, etc) are really hard to adapt well, given how much is in the source material that an adaptation isn't practically able to cover.

Yeah, Asagiri is the focus of volume 1. After this bit, the next volumes focus on other characters more. If there's concern on who the MC will end up with, I don't think there's going to be any decision anytime soon, at least not until the MC's issues get resolved, and they go quite deep.

While this case seems obvious, one has to think there's some twist to it. There's already been stuff in the story that isn't as obvious as the surface suggests. A big theme in this story is character backstories, and you're going to need them to understand what's really going on in this case...
