Hina did not take losing to his mother very well lol

And so it ends, fittingly on a tragic note, right on the 100th chapter as implied by the title. I enjoyed reading this, though at some point I found myself becoming more invested in the little parts that happen after the ghost stories at the very end of the chapters than the ghost stories themselves. Though...it was fun to theorize how each story could be metaphorically linked to his feelings or life situation too.

It's interesting how unstable he was before he met Hina and how the 100 stories actually gave him some time to reflect on his mother's death and time to bond with Hina. And I guess he went away more at peace than before?
In a way you could say it's a sweet story and even if Hina starts the cycle again she might be able to come to terms with his death sometime along the way too.

Thanks for translating! It was a lot of fun reading along the releases.

So, yeah, it confirms my suspicion. 100 ghost stories always ends in 99th story. And all of those drama with Yuma family and the exorcist just end like that? No solid confirmation on what actually happened? Or it just another Yuma imagination?

I hope we get to read Hina 99 ghost stories. Her stories kinda better than Yuma.

Thank you for all of these chapters! What a ride.

A shadowy figure begins their tale and we‘re uncertain if Yuuma is still with us.

Seeing Yuuma’s story told without certain elements made his situation seem more detached, like a story you heard in passing, and unpainted by Yuuma’s experience. His father appeared as a man, instead of a shadowy monstrous figure.

In the end, Yuuma becomes the ghost in a ghost story.
Hina was desperate to save his life, but regrets causing him to suffer more. In his letter, he tells her that he had planned to end his life after finishing the ritual, but decided he didn’t to sacrifice her for his mother. After seeing his thankful letter, it turns out he didnt feel like she made him suffer, she changed the way he viewed this life and the after. Her stories seemed more hopeful and wistful, and maybe that’s how he viewed the end of his story/life. After all this, he wanted his friend to live and sacrificed a life with his mom for it to happen.

But what if Hina viewed the end of his story/life as one where a boy chooses to be reunited with his mother instead of his loyal friend that did all that he asked and saved his life? (I mean, they got rid of a body together.) The boy left his friend in the dark until the very end. It could seem cruel, bitter, regretful. Such a cruel story cannot end here, right?

Wouldn’t a good friend try to bring them back?

Once I saw the chart, I knew what was coming. Parents, stop buying these charts for your kids! The chart, the book, the stuffed animal, the lamp. Another round begins.

Hina wears Yuuma’s shirt and has cut her hair. I’m convinced she is talking to a picture of Yuuma and begins the ritual to reunite with him. She knows more about the ritual and the risks, but throws caution to the wind to reunite with him. Who will she choose to sacrifice to revive Yuuma?

I’m very pleased that its confirmed that Yuuma was talking to his mother’s framed picture, as I had guessed. It’s been fun reading and seeing reader theories in the comments.

Although I hopes that Yuuma and Hina would both survive, I enjoyed this series until the end. I’m pleased that the title stayed true.

I was honestly expecting more from the ending. We'd already figured out the whole story around Yuuma and this was just a retelling of everything we already knew, it was pretty obvious what happened to him from the last chapter and the title. If it was twist Hina was the one who introduced him to the ghost stories I'd understand but it wasn't. The way it's set up it doesn't seem like there's room for an epilogue either.

On the whole this series was a great read, and I'm really happy I thought the vast majority of the horror stories were good. I've reccomended it to anyone who's shown interest to me in horror manga.

The 100th Ghost story being not that scary for Yuma since he died after story 99, ending the game, making a scary story unnecessary for 100 and then for Hina's first story using the context she's now playing the game makes it a proper scary ghost story again.

Yuma should have specified she was possessed though if he didn't want her chasing after him. Maybe that's something I'm missing the subtext of with 99's Hanako-San.
