Thank you for all of these chapters! What a ride.
A shadowy figure begins their tale and we‘re uncertain if Yuuma is still with us.
Seeing Yuuma’s story told without certain elements made his situation seem more detached, like a story you heard in passing, and unpainted by Yuuma’s experience. His father appeared as a man, instead of a shadowy monstrous figure.
In the end, Yuuma becomes the ghost in a ghost story.
Hina was desperate to save his life, but regrets causing him to suffer more. In his letter, he tells her that he had planned to end his life after finishing the ritual, but decided he didn’t to sacrifice her for his mother. After seeing his thankful letter, it turns out he didnt feel like she made him suffer, she changed the way he viewed this life and the after. Her stories seemed more hopeful and wistful, and maybe that’s how he viewed the end of his story/life. After all this, he wanted his friend to live and sacrificed a life with his mom for it to happen.
But what if Hina viewed the end of his story/life as one where a boy chooses to be reunited with his mother instead of his loyal friend that did all that he asked and saved his life? (I mean, they got rid of a body together.) The boy left his friend in the dark until the very end. It could seem cruel, bitter, regretful. Such a cruel story cannot end here, right?
Wouldn’t a good friend try to bring them back?
Once I saw the chart, I knew what was coming. Parents, stop buying these charts for your kids! The chart, the book, the stuffed animal, the lamp. Another round begins.
Hina wears Yuuma’s shirt and has cut her hair. I’m convinced she is talking to a picture of Yuuma and begins the ritual to reunite with him. She knows more about the ritual and the risks, but throws caution to the wind to reunite with him. Who will she choose to sacrifice to revive Yuuma?
I’m very pleased that its confirmed that Yuuma was talking to his mother’s framed picture, as I had guessed. It’s been fun reading and seeing reader theories in the comments.
Although I hopes that Yuuma and Hina would both survive, I enjoyed this series until the end. I’m pleased that the title stayed true.
