It's too early to tell, but the direction does seem to be going as I predicted. Being absent for so long only hurts his chance at winning, and because he misses out on so many moments, he doesn't feel right to at least try catching up. He continues to distance himself.

What I got from this is that maybe they should spend some time away from each other and Macchan. Figure out what they want to say to each other first
And man. Do I feel for Umeko and Take. Mostly for Umeko because she had to deal with both the burden of having her best friend's life in her hands placed on her by other people as a child and the guilt of "running away" from it. The worst of both worlds. Take I feel less bad for, but his circumstances still suck. The pacing of his character is kind of weird too, but I guess that's what happens when you write a guy that isn't common in Shounen. One with emotional intelligence

Aaaaaaaaaa first I do like how refreshing Takeuchi is with owning his crush. I think part of it comes from the fact that he has good insight into what types of people he’s surrounded by and also the sad awareness that he’s absent so often he won’t be bothered by rumors and snide remarks. (He will be bothered but can pretend otherwise sort of feeling.)
At the end of the day it’s not about who to root for I just hope he gets a little more honest with himself and the people around him. Admission of love is brave indeed but his unwillingness to admit his loneliness / being forgotten is his greatest vulnerability that he doesn’t want others to pick up on? IDK JUST WHAT A WAY TO END THIS CHAPTER :c

Isnt Take pushing Umeko and Macchan together? IDK like, he knows that he himself isn't that healthy and the crushed feelings of being away for so long will feel like temporary disparation. Now I know why Take is that harsh with Umeko. He felt that she once discarded him away (it's totally okay for Umeko to do so anyway, since her life is not all about taking care of sick friend. She too has life to do). But yeah, I think Take needs other friend than Macchan and Umeko to fresh his own distorted view he cultivated all these years

Interesting. I was wondering if Take and Umeko really WERE friends or if Take hated her. It looks like it's complicated relationship full of guilt and rejection from both sides.
Take's definitely pushing Umeko and Macchan together, which is what the second to last page of the previous chapter was about, and I'm pretty sure Umeko and Take are friends because they're so careful around each other when it comes to Macchan. It looks like maybe Umeko joined the track and field because she had someone else to look after Take with?
Idk what endgame is going to be but TakexMacchan looks more likely so far.

@Thejobbernowl think they are friends and care for each other but theres a definite rift where she doesn't want to completely be tied to him due to his condition. With this love triangle will slowly break down there relationship.
@Sarsak think take and umeko are end game just gut feeling both like maschan as there hero as there light in darkness and sadness they are in. But realize it isnt love and figure out what the other really means to each other. Think umeko and maschan will initially get together since take is pushing them together but think the will seperare by the end.
@Ceiye feel worse for take due to condition completely debilitated him expect regular life and make connections with others hes definitely in a darker place between the two.
