@arimareiji: No, I don't think that this idiot squad would help matters, and I have read all 15 volumes of the of Maison Ikkoku and watched all 96 episodes of the TV series (and various OVAs). You'd think I was a masochist making myself suffer through all the absolute inanity of that idiot squad. Like I said, I'm glad that this idiot squad was stopped in its tracks.

@FredFriendly Indeed. At some point, watching Maison Ikkoku became less about romantic comedy and more like enduring a root canal because surely the pain won't last forever.

No praise was intended for a potentially-disastrous intervention here*, it's just that the term "idiot squad" (that "helps" a couple) reminded me of the grifting, boozing, self-centered, sometimes-malicious nonsense of the MIIS**.

* - Although I have to admit to a perverse fondness for Juri ever since the chapter where she interfered with / comforted Rival-kun, and I ship IchiXHaru.
** - Ftr, imo MIIS is just negligee-girl, Yotsuya (?), and Mrs. Ichinose. I even developed a perverse fondness for Yagami after a few rereads/rewatches, because she's about the only one of consequence who will clearly act and speak her goddamn mind. She does more to break the stalemate (and unintentionally get them together) than the MIIS does in the whole damn series. If anything, MIIS is more like a cat toying with a mouse to prolong/enjoy its suffering.
