Ok, the turn-of-the-century car gives me more clues as to the time period. It’s interesting, I can’t recall any manga that take place in the beginning of the 1900’s, that’s unique.

If you have any interest, Golden Kamuy is set between the end of the Meiji era and the beginning of the Taisho era, probably around or a little before when this manga takes place. It shows more of a look at the military history of that period.

Thank you for your replies, Caitsith! Your insight is indeed interesting and helpful, I’ll look into Golden Kamuy. I personally love this period of time in Western History, it’s fascinating to see it explored in an Eastern (Japanese) context
