@givemersspls Well, Nie Lie isn't lying actually, he said several things in response to shen hong
First he prove how ridiculous the claim is that the city lord would be pressuring the sacred family just because Nie Lie asked. Which is true, it took a lot of investigation into the sacred family and the dark guild to determine if they are involved, how and where they are.
Then he stated that the snow-wind family has always conducted their affair in a "just manner". Us as a reader have no way to determine if that's true or not, but since the various patriarch agreed, it seems that Nie Lie isn't lying.
Then he ask a question "when did snow-wind family used their resource to suppress another family". That's not a statement, that's a question. To which the answer seems to be "it never happened", and "that's not how the snow-wind family conduct itself". It's the various patriarch that answer that question for Nie Lie.
With this exchange Nie Lie proved to the patriarchs:
- The Snow-wind isn't only acting against the sacred family just because Nie Lie asked. In the first half Shen Hong was trying to make the case that the snow wind was acting because Nie Lie dispute with their 2 descendant.
- The Snow Wind is just in conducting their affairs. Which means for the Snow Wind family to act like that they must have a good reason, not just a little conflict between children of families.
- Never before as the Snow Wind family done such a thing, which indicate that the reason for them to act this way is exceptional.
At no point did he lie. There are cases where Nie Lie lied and mislead. For instance when he was pretending to be beaten up in early chapters. Or when he gave the tianfang grass to the Sikong in the dark prison realm. The author obviously think of Nie Lie as righteous, and there is obvious cases where Nie Lie actions are definitely questionable, for instance him acting as if he is already fiance to Zi Yun (what is consent ... ? ) or giving an addictive medicine to someone knowing full well they cant get it on their own. There also seem to be hidden misogynism in the story, where the female characters, even if they are strong (and ning'er certainly looks like she is strong) become damsel in distress that needs rescuing. They never seemed to be able to do anything on their own.
So yes, I do agree with you the author at times seems to be full of himself. Showing characters acting with "righteousness" when they aren't always acting as such. However I dont think this is one of those questionable moments.
