I think that comment went away when they merged the first chapter together, so I don't know anymore. It may even be a completely different manga...

@Nicromatic i think theres more to it. I remember reading that the MC is past the prime age for adventurer and they usually retire. Maybe the MC is stubborn and the party decide to cursed him and forced him to retire before he gets hurt? Of course, it could also be that they were douchebags and wanted him gone for other reasons.

I doubt it's the Hero. He would need to be a special kind of idiot to use his super special family heirloom as a cursed item when it seems like he could have used something that would be impossible to link to him.

I still believe it was the Sage.

@R3nAknyght (Wow your name is hard to spell. Lol.) I actually think that someone, possibly the mage, slipped the hero's ring into his bag in order to blame him for stealing it later on. But you might be right. I'm still hoping that the hero is a good guy, though.

That’s an option I can see happening too, but for the fun of it I’d like to imagine that it’s someone outside the party (or maybe a spy inside the party) trying to kill the hero and failing miserably.

Unfortunately, the hero is the most suspicious for placing the curse (especially if the jewelry has to be worn by the victim). I mean, the hero and the party didn’t seem to make a big deal about the missing ring and the MC was meant to die from that curse. So the jewelry wouldn’t appear and the framing wouldn’t take effect till after his dead body was found with the ring. Also as we’ve seen the cursed item disappears and isn’t visible till the curse is broken, and I imagine the caster would be aware of this. So, I can’t see framing as an option since death was the more likely result for the MC. If the hero’s made no mention of his EXTREMELY important item missing, it’s likely because he knows where it is. And the MC can’t remember touching the ring so it would have to have been placed on him by someone close enough to be around him while he’s sleeping. The hero would have to be the one....

... Then again, the framer could just accuse the MC of selling the ring once the accusations start and the ring goes missing, so.... everything is possible.

Still I would like to see the hero be innocent.

Judging from the interaction with the hero's party in chapter one, I'm guessing the hero is somewhat involved and actually feel guilty about it but never told MC the reason... or idk, my expectation for this manga's storytelling quality dropped quiet a bit after seeing the interaction with merchant and this whole appraisal thing.

No one gonna mention he didn't use appraisal on the stone before sending it to merchant? I mean he knows it was no ordinary stone but never thought of checking it out first even though he didn't know the price?

I guess he is really slow. No wonder he got bamboozled.
