Lmao. Dude, this was never compelling. It was always on this road, people were just hopeful. The signs were there, they just weren't as overt as they are now. Anyone who thought that this was going to be anything but Nisekoi 2.0 was kidding themselves.
It's got fantastic art,
had a not overtly awful, but extremely generic story (without too many flaws), and nice designs and that's about it. It never had any direction or plans. Nisekoi got about 100 chapters in off solely off its art and stalling abilities before it started to collapsed under it's own weight, so did this. History could not be repeating itself more overtly, and the surprise is comical. Hell, it even had the same "girl from way back when who probably isn't going to win" shit.
I'll be extremely fucking impressed if we don't get a non-commital open-ended ending (because of that dress scene), or Itsuki doesn't flat out win solely on the virtue of being the first girl on the center of the cover and the one to appear on the majority of the covers. She just reeks of "main girl".
I agree with the past arcs and "development" being fucked, but that shit was so fucking obviously going to happen. It happens in almost every harem, especially the ones people like to try and pretend are fantastic because they "take all the girls seriously". Harems aren't realistic romances, and they don't make for good writing because of how little sense they make emotionally and as entertainment fiction. The best harems are ones that make a joke out of it, keep it on the sideline (god forbid they make it the focus) or have a clear winner in sight from the beginning. Even then it's an absolute pain.
