@yotsuba428 i think we're all missing the fact that there's two different types of tsunderes - classic and modern.
classic tsundere describes permanent behavior; ie initially cold or hostile to gradually warming over time (albeit nino is more instantaneous)
modern tsundere is more temporary; as in switching between hostile and lovestruck, kind of personality swings (i guess itsuki, but i feel like throughout the entire manga, itsuki and fuutarou's relationship has been one of admiration for each other's work ethic than anything actually romantic, hence what i see as a lack of true deredere. she gets embarrassed a lot, sure, but out of being lovestruck? - not entirely sold on that)

So it was Yotsuba that wanted individuality first because one of her sister talk to fuutarou and he probably mistaken her as the same person (I'm assuming thats Itsuki, since nino is beside her and Ichika only met Fuutarou to play card games. I don't remember Miku ever meeting him, but who knows.) I've read some theory that Yotsuba might be the smartest one, but only performing at her worst due to something and this chapter might be the proof of it. Her mother's word seems to be her "limiter" of some sorts.

Anyways... I know I've argued different points on this topic but...

I think Yotsuba could have been the first "Rena" to meet Fuutaro in Chapter 42 and not Itsuki!! lol 😀

I had been going on the idea that first Rena was Itsuki because she saw Fuu's picture in his handbook in the Chapter 2.

But now I'm thinking... Itsuki did find the picture of Fuu and Yotsuba from 5 years ago... but afterwards she confronted Yotsuba and told her that she saw the pic of her and the boy in Fuu's handbook. It really makes more sense that if a sister finds a picture of a boy and her sister from 5 years ago, that she'd want to tell her (Yotsuba) of such a crazy find.

In Chapter 42 "Rena" shows Fuu the charm to show him that she is the girl from 5 years ago in Kyoto. Yotsuba knows the meaning of the charms! https://mangadex.org/chapter/381143/2

I got thrown off thinking only Itsuki knew the pic of them was in the handbook so Rena had to be Ituski... But if Itsuki told Yotsuba where the pic was when she saw it, then she would know too.

And even though Yots is notoriously known for being bad at pretending to be another sister... she's not pretending to be another sister... just in disguise.

In Chapter 34, Itsuki shows him the charm she keeps with her when trying to show him that she's determined to change herself too. When Fuu asked where she got it, she said she didn't remember if she bought it or given so doesn't know the whole story of how Yotuba bought them or that he was with her when she did.

Chapter 41 page 5.... I'm thinking yotsuba was the person hiding while Fuu and Itsuki was talking and Fuu told Itsuki that because of the girl in Kyoto that he had decided to become a person that would be necessary to someone. https://mangadex.org/chapter/363853/5

And in Chapter 42, Rena basically repeated and made the comment that he has become a person "necessary" to the sisters. https://mangadex.org/chapter/381143/9

Edit: Chapter 79, it was Itsuki posing as Rena since she revealed that after their second meeting but I think it helps the author throw off the readers in figuring out Yotsuba was the first Rena at the lake.

Anyways, that's just my current theory and tossing it out for fun lol.

Honestly not sure so just have to let this arc play out to hopefully find out. But on what we do know to this point, my opinion is that she's hasn't been depressed or hurting see her sisters fighting for Fuu's attention and am just going by her actions and words and even thought to herself on her feelings for Fuu on Ch 72.

What she said and showed in that entire chapter seem pretty honest with herself unless this current arc turns on the love switch for her.

I do think she's known for a long time that Fuu was the boy in Kyoto. I think she has kept her identity a secret from him... maybe out of embarrassment that she wasn't able to be the person she wanted to be even though she sees Fuutaro has studied hard to change himself. But I think what makes her happy is having Fuutaro in their lives and seeing him and help him be a happy guy and not alone as she saw him 5 years ago and that may be enough for her and that's why she said that to Itsuki at the end of the last arc. I mean if she really did have deep romantic feelings for her than I can't see her being able to do all she did with her heart to support Miku in the last arc.

@donm527 Yeah, i was thinking the same, that sounds like something yotsuba would do, it seems she doesn't think she has the right to be seen as a love interest by futarou, it's sad because her motivation to change was her mother but she died, maybe she lost motivation at that point.
