Pretty sure Fakku censored some of the themes of the author's past work when it was officially released. I'm not looking forward to that.

My experience with manga/light novels/comics/graphic novels is really different from other people in regards to the country, I live in Mexico, whatever I dont have available tru Panini Manga I usually order tru amazon and get it in a few days, but yes, 90% of the manga I read is not available in english or spanish, so of course I will pirate it, it doesnt make any sense for authors to complain about others reading their work online when nobody can read the language or get it in their countries, I mean just look at brasil, they barely get any mangas of course weebs over there will pirate anything, hell I dont even know how long it will take for an amazon package to be delivered from the US to Brasil

@nolyta09 Which brings up the topic of this manga I saw yesterday called "Libidors", which was kinda gross, but basically is a parasite that thrives and deforms humans when they have an erection. So yeah.

People who can't read Japanese can't be included in the market for Manga with Japanese language. Who would buy a book you can't read unless a collector? So it's not a lost sale.

So how to make people who can't read Japanese buy the manga through official means? Of course sell the translated manga. People won't buy it in the first place if it's still in Japanese language.

@Takamita well maybe they just dont care about westerners and only focus on domestic market. An example would be the author of monster musume when Joey the anime man interviewed him, I remember he asked, what were his thoughts about his work being famous abroad? And he answered something like yeah I didn't know my work was that well liked.

Yeah, always being told to get the official release but then:

^That's half my monthly salary and I work for an IT company.

And the "This content is not available in your country" for the digital version of everything.

Okay i swear, i can't even understand what's going on in this one. They are so short and the grammar and translations so bad that it just becomes word soup kind of.

I dunno about anime and manga industry, but Kancolle is region locked cause the producers have a weird hard on for "making a Japanese product only for Japanese people"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff
It is a form of regulation of foreign trade and a policy that taxes foreign products to encourage or safeguard domestic industry.
Taxing imports means people are less likely to buy them as they become more expensive. The intention is that they buy local products instead – boosting the country's economy.

@Takamita im from Brasil, and yeah, we barely have official translated manga in pt-br over here... only the popular ones (naruto, bleach, etc) and a few older ones. Yes, i can buy and read then in english but the prices in dolar ( 1 u$ = 5,50 R$) and the time to ship the manga to here, make it hard to buy... digital versions? Same problem of everyone, too much region lock and again the prices ( im a student, dont have too much money).

Oh, I know that tariffs exist and are stupidly expensive, but didn't think they would comprise 50% of the final total price for a single physical volume of manga.

Also, I love the irony here. So much for "boosting the economy", right?
There is near unanimous consensus among economists that tariffs have a negative effect on economic growth and economic welfare while free trade and the reduction of trade barriers has a positive effect on economic growth.

I'm honestly tired of the argument but here we go again. Anime and Manga found their 'Western' Popularity THROUGH Piracy. The obvious comment that makes it's way into arguments time and time again is "Piracy is caused by a lack of Service". This is entirely true. It's shameful to me that these Japanese Devs/Artists/Whatever constantly pick a fight with their fans for not just coughing up more money for their shitty service. You don't blame the fans for a problem with the market, you fix the market and the fans will follow, don't alienate your own community. The biggest issue for this is the structure of Manga. These Mangaka are stuck in an outdated magazine structure that ties their hands in publication and then the long wait for volume releases. There's also no immediate translation service so they have to prove that there is popularity for it in the outside world, which obviously causes piracy to happen in the meanwhile. Look at something like Blue Lock that has gone untranslated for over close to a hundred chapters. And I think the best example is Tokyo Ghoul, which was in the final chapters before Official English Translations were even started, that's fucking insane considering how big that series was.

So here's my whole thing. The structures that they're holding onto so tightly are the things choking both them and the community, and it's ridiculous they're pointing the finger in the wrong direction. They shouldn't be looking at how to stop piracy they should be looking at how to improve their releases to a wider audience, which is what stops piracy in the first place.
I'd like to comment on videogames in this manner. The long standing rumor in Japan for games has been that PC games get pirated and is not worth the investment. MULTIPLE studios have been proven wrong over this. FROM was fucking floored when they saw how much the PC release of Dark Souls sold, their first PC release which then prompted them to continue. Squeenix had the exact same response with their FF7 release on PC. Now you have JP devs actively releasing on PC, although staggering the release most times after Consoles (which is another thing altogether). My point is that they were terribly wrong with what they had thought about online piracy, and I believe the same holds true for manga.

Mother of...

@justforthelulz
No kidding.
Manga, anime, hentai, etc., have a much larger variety of content than my local American content.
For me, there's just more interesting material overseas. The local stuff kinda sucks - with some exceptions, but it doesn't come close to matching up to the foreign stuff.
Monster girls? Mostly vampire, ghost, and zombie stuff over here, with the occasional mutant... Meh.
You can bang your sword, car, PC, boats - the list goes on...
Isekais, if you're into that.
Yuri/Yaoi? That stuff is tasteless over here. The foreign material is more interesting.
Futa? Bosshi, Mofuringu, Ubanis, etc. The local stuff? 🤮
And more.
